Hi all,

What do you think is a fair new/used price for one of these lens?
(SMC Pentax-DA 35mm f/2.4 AL)

* Do these lens still allow for manual focus? And are they 'A' compatible, in that you can set the aperture from within the camera itself? Thanks

Thank you.
Yes as smc says the 35mm f2.4 is around £130-150 new. You can use it for manual focus only if you switch your k30 to manual focus - there is no way to alter the aperture apart from inside the camera itself. It's a cracking little lens that focuses
quickly in auto focus,it's sharp and you will find the extra width of the 35 useful as well.

The 35mm f2.4 is a cracking little lens - it never seems to be off my k30 lately - I'm sure you will like it too!

Continuous Ink Supply System, I'm using an inkflow setup at the moment.
Looks great - looks like it will save a bob or two compared to original inks (My printers a Canon) - thanks for the info

Thanks John. I agree a tripod is needed but they aren't always welcome in churches/museums etc.

Just as an aside, the HDR version as a print won first place for me at the Wigan 10 Gala Day a couple of years back. I've been pleased with the success the image has had.

Did you use a tripod John or hand held? A 5 shot bracket I think you said.

I always knock about a third off the price of a lens or piece of gear I've brought but she still thinks these items are expensive - some new item's though are just never mentioned

I've never used profiling and my prints from a series of computers (albeit the same box, but with motherboards etc upgraded) and cheap Epson A4 inkjets have always produced excellent results.

In your position, I'd start from square one and undo the profiling (if that's possible) and try a straight print. If that's still no good, I'd look at the printer. Some are more accurate than others. The Epson Stylus Photo series manage to produce good prints "out of the box". I appreciate that monitor calibration and profiling should give better results, but this isn't always the case.

One reason I was interested in using soft proofing was to get better results having prints printed by one of the online print houses.

I've started using soft proofing - it seems to make my pics very dull and I can't adjust things enough afterwards to get that 'punch' back. I know prints are reflective and I won't be able to match my monitor but I'm disappointed with what I'm seeing. Maybe I should just switch soft proofing off - I was quite happy with my prints before using it.
Yes we do seem to go around in circles when printing!

My suggestion would be either -
1. Buy a new tower as suggested by steven9761 & col55555ine with Windows 7 or 8 with at least 4mb ram and buy Photoshop Elements or Lightroom.
2. If I was slightly technical savvy I'd buy a already assembled motherboard, chip and ram and bung it in my tower (reasonable prices from such as Amazon)- again with at least 4mb ram and buy Photoshop Elements (or Lightroom but would need a Windows upgrade too for this)

My laptop with Windows 7 worked really well - until it fowled up - it now works really well with Linux.
My pc with Vista works really well and continues to do so and it's a oem version.
