As Stefan says - that's the DA L (plastic mount and no lens hood included) and is also being offered by Camera World and a couple of others at £189 - they are all kit lenses unboxed. I know because I checked them all out before buying from SRS

Having said that - £189 for a DA (L) is a very good price - but personally I did not want the plastic mount and would have had to buy a hood - so by the time you add postage costs and the price of a hood.....

thanks Stefan....shows what I know

I'd buy either a used Pentax 12-24 or the Sigma 10-20(both rectilinear lenses), followed later by a Pentax 55-300 for the longer 'reach'.

I'm saving up for the 55-300 myself. El Dingo
Just in case it is of any interest and you have not spotted it - our friends at SRS are offering the 55-300 for an amazing £219 and free delivery to forum members - took delivery of mine yesterday and desperate to try it out!
under £200 here...

Fair point, but for those of us who stuck at K20 this is looking like irresistible!!

I agree, the other side of the coin is if you wait til next model you will wait for ever......anyway, as we all know, all dslr will take excellnt photos.......its an eye for a good photo that counts most.

I'm currently looking to update my tv and its the same problem, getting bogged down with minutae of technical specs......stick a good signal in and most tvs should give a more than decent picture. I'd welcome any sugestions for a 40"LED tv though lol.

Given that the price drops relatively quickly in electronic products I have managed to wean myself away from being "an early adopter". I am quite happy with my K7 and may even wait for the next offering from Pentax.Opting to spend money on better glass.

are we talking about the 35mm 2.4 not 30mm ?

At £149 from SRS the DAL 35mm 2.4 must be a good buy !

It depends very much on what you want to shoot.

The one that will extend your repertoire most is probably the Macro lens, which can also double up for landscapes and as a longish portrait lens.
Essentially I am seeking a "faster" lens for use under normal lighting conditions. In this respect all three meet the requirement. I have to decide which offers extra opportunities above my kit lenses and in this respect I think , as John says, the macro would be the option. However I am leaning towards the "fastest" the 50mm 1.4 which can be had for £254 from microglobe and leave me funds towards the macro at Chrissie before the VAT rise.

The LBA is quite frustrating illness and one I fear will never be conquered

Has anyone any hands experience of the DA*55mm 1.4 ? and if so is it preferable to the FA 50mm 1.4 ? I understand from SRS that focussing problems with olde cameras seems to have been solved. I am still deciding on my first prime and its narrowong down to one of these or either 70mm 2.4 and 100mm 2.8 macro WR

Howard I have been reading your posts and think a Macro would suite your needs in one area. The Pentax WR 100mm would be a really good buy if you want to get into Macro, but like everything in life you need to practice. A good lens becomes really good when you have learnt how to use it and this needs practice and reflection.
Macro is another area where you need to learn different techniques and this will take time.

Just viewed your porfolio Gareth....I'm well impressed...I might as well give up and go home now !!!

[quote:3496ace15f="cardiff_gareth"]Sorry, just seen this thread after commenting on the one in the general section. What a load of tosh Them pictures in my eyes were all terrible, uber distracting backgrounds as it looked like they had stopped the lens right down to maximise DOF, just what you want when shooting portraits. I mean come on, a bookcase, a street scene, that park bench and the umberella etc etc
If thats taking amazing pictures I feel like we're all safe
I think you might be being a little too harsh....if I remeber rightly the challenge was to also show "where they had come from" namely they were both leaving the teaching profession to persue other careers. So not a conventional portrait per se.

Howard
True, maybe it does show where they came from to where they are now but the way the 'pro' bigged them images up etc on the show was dyre. Still, good for a laugh I suppose
There was no feedback on making them better, only saying how good they were when clearly they are shizer
I agree entirely, the photos were, by and large terrible, especially the one taken at the ice cream van . Hopefully it was just a basic intro to the series and that it may get a little more technical, not holding my hopes out though. Next week is landscapes I think be interesting to see what "gems" are produced in that episode.

Howard[/quote]My mistake, programme is about Wedding Photography .
