I don't have the 31 but I do intend buying one soon (which should tell you how I feel about the two FA Limiteds I do actually own!). When I first got the FA43 I loved it and to this day it remains my favourite lens, when I bought the FA77 I was a little disappointed as I couldn't see any real improvement over my D-FA100 (considerably cheaper and 1:1 macro) in terms of IQ. This was based on using the lenses on my K10D.

Since I've started to use a Pentax MX the quality of the 77 (and the 43 for that matter) has been a complete revelation! These were lenses designed in a film era so it shouldn't be a huge suprise to find that they give their best results away from digital. If I was sticking to the K10D only I might have now been tempted to keep the 43, ditch the 77 (the D-FA100 is fantastic on digital) and skip the 31 altogether, perhaps adding the DA21 instead.

I'd be quite content to see Samsung sell its sensors to Nikon (or Canon, or any other company) - the more they supply then the cheaper they are to produce (economies of scale and all that) so it would be a benefit to K-mount users too.

After all, supplying sensors to Nikon (and Pentax / Samsung) didn't harm Sony or their own camera division.

Sounds like one of the individual batteries is faulty - run a voltage meter across them to check, you'll probably find one of them has lost its charge. This can happen from time-to-time with batteries, even relatively new ones unfortunately.

I liked the one on the Leica Digilux 2 (and its Panasonic sibling whose name escapes me) where the pop-up flash had two positions allowing you to bounce it. Even if it was only 45 degrees it was still a nice touch - I'm suprised more cameras don't use a similar system...

Still, I'm pleased the K10D has one. Better than nothing in a tight spot and immensely useful as a controller.

You're on the right lines, copying to the root directory simply means copying to the card but *not* placing it in any folder or sub-folder. With the K10D you have to insert the card and then switch the camera on whilst simultaneously holding down the "Menu" button - check your instructions to be sure, but I'd bet the procedure's the same for the K20D. Make sure your battery is fully charged before starting!

Thanks John,

I think I badly worded the question what I meant was the lenses for the ist going on to a K10/20. I assume that they will be ok
Short answer, "yes".

No-one has mentioned the *ist DL.

How does that compare? I ask because that's what I bought.
From what I recall, the major difference between the DS and the DL was the viewfinder; the former came with a pentaprism, the latter with a pentamirror. I think they also differed in the number of focus points offered but other than that were essentially very similar, I can't imagine there's any difference at all in the pictures they're capable of producing (which is the important bit after all!). For the money you paid you can't go wrong.

Excellent judging Martin and congratulations to all the winners, especially Epithet Man - a fantastic photo and a worthy first place.

Love the camber of those wheels on the Caterham - now *that's* how they're supposed to be driven! Could maybe do with slightly tighter cropping (I'd get rid of the long grass at the top and some of the road to the right so the car's in the top right of the frame and looking like it's almost hanging out of the picture).

Was this at Bedford Autodrome? They look like Palmer Jaguars to me in the second shot. Nice arrangement though and I really like the colours.
