I have been waiting for the sun to come out and today it did, although not for long.
This shot is a composite panorama from 13 images (3 rows of 5,4 & 4 shots across) stitched together using Microsoft ICE.
It was taken from the Ash Ranges (open over the holidays) looking towards Guildford. Much of the detail is lost in reducing the image to 800 pixels across however you can see a larger version here where Guildford Cathedral can just be seen in the middle of the shot just below the horizon .
MS ICE has deleted all the exif data so here it is:
Pentax K-7 with DA55-300 @ 55mm
F16 & ISO 200 with various shutter speeds.

P.S. You can see a 100% crop from the original shot with the cathedral here which also preserves the exif data.

The Giants three steps
Taken from Shutlingsloe high above Macclesfield Forest. Croker Hill, Bosley Cloud and Mow cop are prominent on the horizon. Local legend has it that they were the stepping stones of a Giant.

Hi folks,
I'm sorry I'm late. I was whisked away on an urgent mission and I've been working 20 hour days for the last week.

Darlene, Your photo was amazing...it took my breath away. I know that you were traveling this week from the PM I recieved from you last week and can see from your photo that you are at the Grande Canyon in the USA.
I will assume that you are not home yet...as I am certian that we would have heard from you.
I guess where this comp is a Fortnight, a day or so late will not matter to much. Having said that, I do hope that you give us a new upcoming topic soon!

Thank you, Dr. Orloff . I was panning the bird , took serval shot until he landed. It was very cold there in the Grand Canyon, 20min is all we could handle at a time and then into a building we would go. It was more then worth it, the beauty is out standing! I am in Las Vagus, our flight was cancelled, so we will start home tomorrow should be arriving home on Monday noon if all goes well. I will try and post our new topic. It will be " SNOW "

This picture is a bit small and therefore hard to appreciate. Snow always seems to expand the landscape. Here the space is divided up, but I'm afraid I really can't appreciate what I'm viewing at this size, so it would be unfair to comment further.

I like the texture of the stone and the wispy sky. The little details such as the cornflowers and the cairn are small and subtle and preserve the sense of space. The composition is of course spot on adding to the theme.
Gareth
Good choice of format and the snow adds to the spaciousness. I like the well spaced bare trees, the extra contrast provided by the snow-free field and and the line of foreground bushes. Very tidy.

An eagle soaring above the Grand Canyon!!!!!!! Job done. The eagle is nice and sharp and the (I guess) wider aperture adds depth. Not fair on the rest really.

This is Surrey and not Australia? I didn't realise these distant views and clarity of the air were available. The foreground is a bit scrubby, although such is the nature of heathland. Nice colours and full marks for some effort on a big panorama. Nice.

The focus is a maybe a little in front of the bauble or maybe you're just not going to get that clear a reflection from a bauble. So I need the title to help me interpret the photo. I also need to see how many beer cans are involved, plenty I hope. A great interpretation of the theme and a photo to smile at.

Again, a lovely green and pleasant view with excellent clarity in the scene and nice colours. I'm not sure the half and half composition makes the best use of this. A panoramic format slicing off the top leaving an inch of sky leaving an inch and an inch slice off the foreground would I think work wonders.

I wish I'd been on this train rather than in that bloody car. The Santa special in the snow - a nice spot. I like the curve in the tracks. For me the subject is maybe a bit too central in the frame and I might be tempted to crop in a little from the upper right. Nice though.
Sorry for the delay. I have been ultra stupid busy and I was not expecting to be judging. I knew Darlene was away and so there would be a delay in setting the new competition.
