No, they are not both f1.4, look again at the post.

The lens would need to be at least f2.8 and the camera you use would need settings to allow you to specify f2.8. The best choice would be to use 'Aperture Priority', where you select the aperture, and the camera selects the speed. If you need to over-ride this, select 'Manual' and set both the speed and the aperture to your requirements.

I agree with your comments, the first image is 'sharp' but that's what I get with the A-50mm F1:1.4., it was the contrasts I was trying to show.

The 2nd image, was supposed to be a bit 'grainy', that was the effect I was trying for. I wanted it 'clean' - nothing but the water and the rock.

Yes we all have different screens, but that pic still seem 'dull' compared to to others I see,

Take away those 'stems' from the centre of your pic, wouldn't that be better ? And a little cropping ?
