I think the click is controlled by a spring loaded ball bearing, it its gone the stop down mechanism may well be inaccurate.

I've got the 'F' version - Are the F & A versions optically similar?

I've got a fixed f4 one. It does have click stops and I must say the images the lens produces are first rate. When I got it I was stunned by how sharp and contrasty the images from it were.

The fixed (f/4)'A' Series is slightly sharper than the variable

You could also consider the Zeiss, 35-70 (ca. $350 - 400) with a conversion to PK it's a superb lens that Zeiss say is equivalent in sharpness to any of their primes at the same FL. It's a brilliant lens.

I am thinking of buying it but the seller states (Iris ring operates fine but appears not to have click stops) Is this normal for this lens'
