A 500mm f5.6 would do me nicely if it's sharp wide open .. it's should be reasonably priced (as much as a 500mm lens could be) and useable with the promised 1.4x Tc.
This is by far the most exciting news released this week !

I have been looking at possible 500+mm options (Bigma / Sigma and digiscoping) and this arrives with perfect timing (i.e. time to start saving up for it !). The TC is welcome (taking it to 700mm) but I already have the excellent Tamron x1.4 and the AFA x1.7.

At f5.6 it will be affordable (though not WR as not DA*) in the US$1,500 - 2,000 / £1,000-1,300 range I guess and I'm sure will have great IQ as Pentax always seem to make excellent longer FL lenses (*200/*300/400/600/250-600). So with TCs that gives 500/5.6, 700/7.8 and 850/9.5, exciting !

The 16-85/2.8 WR (anything less would be disappointing for a DA*) sounds great though general wisdom is that the highest quality zooms are not more than a multiplier of 3 so is this a replacement for the 17-70 and instead of 2.8 a 4 ?

The 120-380mm sounds a strange beast. Is it a consumer zoom ? Don't think so with a near x3 multiplier. Could it be a Pentax version of the Sigma 100-300/4 ? Maybe f3.5 - 4.5 ? We live in hope !

The DA* 22-38 Ltd sounds very good too and I could easily see something like that ending up in the bag.

At long long last.

Interesting link - but he's wrong about this

Pentax also made a couple long zooms that went to 600mm though none were of the A class.
as everything I've seen from the 250-600mm is stunning !

Looks so much better with a 'real' lens! Perfect partner for legacy glass.
It actually looks a bit like the GXR in that shot.

I'm keen to hear if it has something akin to the NEX line's 'Peaking' function, otherwise focusing with non-AF lenses (and no OVF) could be a bitch.

I didn't like the look of it when I first saw it - makes me wonder what all the fuss was about when they were talking about the awesome design. I'd like to handle one to see how it would be to use though. There's always the chance it looks better in the flesh too.

If the features are there and it handles well I'm definitely interested.
Does look very 'boxy' doesn't it. I was just in Media Markt having my weekly perv handling all the cameras. Other cameras in Ricoh's line-up are really boxy too, just a pack of cards with knobs on.

I wonder if the other kit lenses are just the standard 50-200 and 18-55 hopefully they've been shrunk too, for $100 more i very much doubt it.
It's K mount - I'm sure they'll be the same as are available now.

I'm thinking that's a fair launch price, although I'll wait and see what the price is in sterling first. Although body only converts to about £560 I imagine the UK price will be maybe £650- this is "rip off Britain" after all.

Looks like the price body only could fall below £500 in time- when it is £500 with the prime I'm in !
Japers - I think your currency calculator has a fault (exchange rate to US$ is around 1.58 ). That's £475.

$750 body only
$899 with the 40xs
$999 with 3 lenses (40xs, 18-55 and 50-200).

This is going to be a very decent back-up to the K5 (but where the bloody hell is the OVF !) or travel camera.

Lovely baby but the eyes don't look right to me Jamie. Maybe it's the angle of the reflection, maybe the flash points are too bright (if you were bouncing the flash or had it diffused then you wouldn't get those). Love the rest of the shot !

Not really my scene ... or so I thought until looking through this thread. Loved some of those shots, although the colour versions look good the B&W conversions take us right back to yesteryear. Really enjoyed looking through these.
