I have the DA35 and it's a brilliant little lens. For walkaround use it's just about right, but I think that if it was any longer it wouldn't be as good - I find it "slightly too long" on the odd occasion, but being "slightly too short" is far rarer in my own experience. So if it's a "one lens walkaround" you're after then the 35 Limited wins.

What does the FA43 have going for it? Well it's faster, and is very nice for portraits (though IMO the 35 Limited is no slouch). Its main weakness according to those who have used it (and I haven't, personally) tends to be its minimum focus distance - obviously not an issue for the 35!
18" is too distant ? I wouldn't want to be much closer for portraits and if you really wanted to be then the incredible resolution gives you amazing cropping power. I have to say that the MFD has never been an issue for me - but then it isn't a macro lense so I've never used it as one.

Have used the K-7 and DA* zooms in pouring rain, no issues just keep the hoods on and lens pointed down slightly to stop rain hitting the front element. The biggest problem is getting over the nerves of doing it!

PS welcome to the forum

PPS let us know how you think the K-5 compares to your previous kit once you get to know it a bit better!
Exactly. Word for word.

And welcome to the wonderful world of Pentax !

"Mind the Crack"?

Not at all

Nice set Tim. - It's lovely here I'm tempted to go DBS/street shooting myself but I've got more than enough pics to edit so I'm resisting until another day.
Ha Ha - my first thought too. I couldn't make my mind up whether the titling was deliberate or not

A very lovely series. Possibly all a little too bright - these would have suited bracketing for sure - but a gorgeous series nonetheless. Next time I visit my parents in Ruthin this place will be on the list !

I think I've mentioned it before on here but when deciding on the DA*300 I tried it head to head against the FA 300.

The FA 300 has slightly faster, but noisier, AF but in the DA's corner, and the reasons I chose it in the end, are slightly superior IQ, the silent SDM and WR. The guy selling the FA agreed with me on my assessment - even though he didn't have a DA*300 in stock.

I also tried the *300 against the 60-250. The *300 has superior resolution and AF speed in comparison.

It has amazing resolution as you can see from John's cropped shot above.

A few of these could be improved IMHO with bette cropping. Agree with the suggested crop on Pensive.

Pensive Too and Rickshaw are the two I like best.

Nice set - lots of questions as to what is happening / people thinking in these shots. Agree with Hefty on the crop.

Cheers chaps lens his tamron 70 200 but i'm gonna get the pentax 300 prime for a little bit more reach
The first and last for me (I do love nuthatches) ! A lovely set !

You're going to love the DA*300 (if that's the 300 you buy) - I tried out it against the FA 300 and although the FA focused a fraction faster the IQ is very slightly better from the DA plus of course the silent SDM and WR.

I'm planning to get the Tamron 70-200 this week (for a badminton tournament shoot assignment in 2 weeks time). Guess you like it eh - the IQ looks great !
