There's a shop in the Shanghai photographic mall I go to that has a ton of Pentax gear ... they have about 5 x FA*85/1.4 that start at around GBP1,000
U mean those 85mm 1.4 from that shop are brand new?
There are no brand new Pentax 85s !

Incidentally, the 84mm 1:1.4 is a beast of a lens - huge and heavy. It's not a discreet little jewel like the 77mm. Worth bearing in mind if you like small lenses.

Ah but the 85/1.4 is 'Oh so sexy' !

So after having my K5 fixed it came back not with 1.03 installed (the condition I gave it to them in) but 1.01. Now there is this release, I'm assuming that the latest Firmware release will always include all the previous ones too ? 99% sure they will but can someone confirm that other 1% ?
Cheers !
Kevin

For me personally if I use a sync chord such as my Nissin, I can take the flash off the camera position it where and how I like, and still have P TTL and be able to use HSS mode, for fast moving images such as BMX, Mountain Biking, the faster the shutter I can use the better, being able to throw some light on the subject at the same time as using a fast shutter can make all the difference image wise, which is why I was so impressed with the Metz HSS mode.

claudefrog, Good image, very creative use of the Metz and Flashbender
That's an interesting way to speed up the shutter speed (I'm usually an 'Ambient Light' man) ! Don't have those type of sports round here but I do use the Metz off-camera with a Yongnuo radio set-up. Works well for macro !

It's getting slammed by most comments on the pages I've read so far ..... and the for same reason I'd not consider it. A sensor no bigger than most P&S ? What were Pentax thinking :

Sensor size next to Sony

The A* 85mm and the 50mm you mentioned both are not auto focus. It is such a big shame that Pentax don;t produce more F1.4 auto focus lens. How wonderful it would be if all the Limted lenses are F1.4s.

Thanks for your suggestion anyway.
The Pentax FA*85/1.4 is auto focus if you can find and afford one.
