Interesting replies so far. Any specific locations/shots that people want to go back to in order to do it properly?
Liveaboard (shooting above and below water) through the Indonesian islands of Raja Ampat, Komodo. Lembeh Strait, Bunaken, Manado & Flores. Indonesia was the birthplace of life on earth - e.g. there are more coral species in one dive site in Bali than in the whole of the Caribbean. Though the highlight would be 2 weeks on a liveaboard in the Galapagos !

A bit like the good Dr. above - I spent most of my traveling (business & pleasure) sans camera (well with whatever the equivalent to a P&S of the day was). So there are many places I've been in both Asia & Africa I'd love to revisit (safari of course), in Europe it would be both Croatia & Bosnia during / just before, the civil war. I'd also like to take a really good DSLR under water - where most of my diving was done with the 3040 (3mp) Oly (which produced some great shots nevertheless).

Excellent - thank you for that explanation Stefan. As you can see I have the Metz 50 but only use it for indoor events, usually for a little fill light outdoors the pop-up flash is surprisingly enough even at 10m or so, and I don't have to carry a bulky strobe around.

Cheers Tim - that explains why I have never had that scenario in Shanghai - I've never seen that much light here !

Frogfish then in your opinion you think that the 43mm can produce similar effect if photos were shot as similar condition?
I doubt it. You are always going to have that difference in perspective and it's that perspective that adds a lot to the bokeh - look at the gorgeous bokeh you get from the DA*300. However if the lense is to used for more than head / body shots then the flexibility of the 43mm is a big plus and I still love the bokeh from the 43 Ltd when used for portraits. IMO the 43 fl is a big advantage over a 50/55.

However you want Build Quality (10/10), IQ (10/10) and Bokeh (9/10) - IMO.

If you want a lense purely for head shots .... then you have it already !

I think the lighting in your shot is much more contrasty than the lighting in Frogfish's, and that largely explains the difference.
That and the fact that it was taken at around 1m away ... whereas I'd guess the 77 shot was at 8-10m and that perspective helps in the separation.

Some people say the bokeh of the 43 Ltd can be less than perfect in some circumstances ... but I've never found that circumstance !

I love the 43 Ltd for portraiture as well as other genres. It's an incredibly versatile lense. I used to have an F 50/1.4 (same as the FA) but I honestly don't think it brought anything more to the table in any circumstance over the 43 Ltd - even though it's described as the Bokeh King, so I ended up selling it. In fact I prefer the SMC Tak 50/1.4 if I really want f1.4 .... for it's easily identifiable bokeh !

If you want to take burst shots w. flash then I can understand the need for faster shutter speeds and the HSS, however since, even at 1/180, the flash burst only last for 1/1,000 to 1/10,000 of a sec. so it's not like a faster shutter speed has any effect on single shots, or ....... ? What am I missing here ?

Actually Simon, when we reported it to the police they said it was a very common occurrence during race weeks and people should be aware as the races always attract all sorts of scallys, knowing that there is a lot of cash on the streets. Common sense really.
