That change things but even so it doesn't make a huge differnce, we are talking about mm's here so what will you gain?
Better to use a differnt register as well or make it even smaller.

Btw, i was talking about the Kx and not the Kr, the Kx is smaller then the Kr you know
Kx is:
122.5mm(w) x 91.5mm(h) x 67.5mm(l)
Well the Kx is a discontinued camera and not on the same level (and therefore as good a comparison as the Kr) as the NEX 5N.

This will give you a good idea of just how small the 5 (and 5N) are : link

There is no comparison Stefan. I went from the Pentax shop and the Kr straight to the Sony shop and the N5 - it feels much smaller (and lighter).

Edit. should mention that I tried the Zeiss 85/1.4 (PK with adapter). It's smaller, no question.

When you keep using the K-mount the register distance and things like that will need to be kept the same so you actually don't gain much in size.
The Kx is already very small, so imaging that without a viewfinder and you've your camera.
Not worth it in my opnion, i rather have a optical viewfinder then.
I can see you've not actually had a NEX in your hands

Kr : 125mm(w) x 97mm(H) x 68mm(L) (excluding protrusions)
Nex 5N : (111 x 59 x 38 mm)

Pentax / Ricoh have a long way to go IMHO. I really hope they have something on the drawing board or in testing.

As far as the camera / lens / pocketability issue goes, a lens or two in different pockets and the tiny FLAT camera in another - job done. Though I do agree they may be fiddly (the 3 wheels on the Nex7) that's not such an issue on the new Nex 5N (touch screen) though it may take some getting used to.

re. Nex 7 & Nex 5N
More MPs doesn't translate to cleaner pics on that sensor (I'd assume, as the space between individual photosites is compromised ? Maybe not on an APS-C sized sensor). Just maybe better for cropping or massive posters. It is really the ability to use all that fantastic glass ( and the Peaking function - which I tried out and think it's a big step forward for MF lenses on EVIL cameras) that interests me with this NEX series. Imagine not being constricted by lens mount any more and able to choice any prime from any manufacturer !

Looking at the specs of the 5N vs Nex 7 I am not seeing a huge advantage to the 7 (although it undoubtedly 'looks' nicer) for the vast majority of my shooting. Hopefully there will soon be 3rd party suppliers for a VF.
So having had a further look at the press release the NEX 5N is the one I may go for. Same sensor as in the K5 (tweaked in a different direction - ISO to 25,600) and only ca. $600 (£365) with the 18-55 or ca. $500 (£300) body only. Half the price of the NEX 7 but perfect for mounting all my PK & MF lenses with Peaking. And we can expect those prices to drop another 10-20% quite quickly.

Great video too (60fps). Unlike the NEX 7 the 5N has a touch-screen, though I won't be buying the viewfinder for just another $350 (500 for the camera and 350 for VF - what the hell are they thinking) !! I'll skip the Zeiss 24/1.8 at US$1,000 too - you can get the best 21mm ever made (Contax Zeiss Distagon 21/2.8 ) used for not much more ! Sony have said they will bring out another 10 lenses within the next year.

Whilst I see it as a back up and just to be able to slip into my pocket on occasions when I don't want to cart along a DSLR and backpack along (it goes everywhere with me now, work, play, eating out) others will see it as their primary camera. TBH I found that (after testing the Nex C3 in the shop), with MF lenses, the CIF on the K5 works much faster and maybe a little more accurately than Peaking on the C3. However that may change with more practice.

I'm not sure what the changeover date was now. Can anyone remember? I don't think they would say anything at all before it's signed, sealed and a done deal.

After that, what happens should be interesting.
1st October ... but I read somewhere recently that fingers will be in pies before the handover.

That's a really nice shot PoP .... except I think the water is all going to drain down the plug-hole on the left

Is that the 17-50 or the 17 prime ?

I don't think many landscape photographers use UWA lenses because of the distortion. On FF many would use 24 or 28mm (16-19mm on APS-C) and historically I think 15 was generally the maximum UWA lens (10mm on APS-C), but because the quality of UWA was not great again not used for landscapes.

A lot depends on the quality of the lens you want to use, many of the excellent zooms cover the typical landscape lens length (ca. 17-28mm) nicely, and how you want to use it (stitching may give you higher quality and lower distortion). Although some distortion can be corrected in PP you will lose the borders.

Options aside from the aforementioned would be the Pentax 14mm or the 15mm Ltd and the range of Sigmas from 20 to 30 (look out for soft corners and distortion on some). Otherwise personally I have just acquired a superb Contax Zeiss 28/2.8, which used will cost you less than either of the Pentaxes, and I intend to use this for landscapes and stitch where required.

The lack of AF in a lens shouldn't be an issue at all for you, shooting landscapes (e.g. using hyperfocal techniques you can have from ca. 5m to infinity in focus), and accepting MF will give you a wide selection of superb older glass to choose from.

I don't remember seeing those photos in a thread here
