You're right about the performance, but what a lot of faffing about to fir the lens in the first place. The plastic ring when removed from the GR is also a bit vulnerable to being lost/damaged.
It's not the elegant design that we're used to from Pentax, but it does make up for it in terms of performance, as your pictures show.

Great deal on the Ricoh GR and GV-1 viewfinder at SRS Microsystems, £649 the pair, with the camera selling for £599 everywhere that equates to a nice £100 discount off the excellent GV-1 viewfinder (normally £149).

Hi,
New to this forum. Big fan of small cameras who recently picked up a Ricoh GR, having shot previous iterations of the GR Digital line. The dedicated Ricoh forums online are pretty dead, but there looks to be plenty going on here, so thought I'd sign up.
Like I said, I'm more into small cameras, shot Pentax DSLRs (amongst others) in the past, but they never really worked for me (found I never took the gear out, this goes for CSCs too not just DSLRs), but always admired the Pentax build quality and backwards compatibility.
I was delighted when Pentax and Ricoh joined forces, hopefully it will lead to some great products going forward, I think there is a lot each company can learn from one another (personally I'm praying for a series of fixed lens compacts, GR style, based on the limited pancake lenses (or perhaps a step zoom incorporating 2 or 3 of the focal lengths) with weather sealing).
Quite intrigued by the MX1, but also finding it difficult to resist the GXR at the current giveaway prices!
Looking forward to getting some shots up here, I can see some people are already getting some great images out of the GR.

Hey John, I have mostly always shot in B&W, the reason being is that what mostly interests me is line, form and texture, as well as street photography.
It's not that I see the GR this way at all, but it does produce some lovely noisy images at very high ISO's that are very film like to my eye. I only have weak NR applied to ISO's higher than 6400...
It produces great colour photos too and I really like the understated effects that are available in-camera too.
I cannot stand normal colour images. If I have to shoot colour then I will still tweak them for a colour film look, like Kodachrome etc. but that's just me of course.
Anyway, I see normal colour scenes with my eyes everyday of my life...If only I could get the analog signal on my old B&W TV to work...
To me, B&W images are erotic and beautiful, it's a visceral feeling. If I walk past a restaurant or a cafe with B&W images hanging on it's walls I will always stop to look, they are so powerful and command my attention, unlike colour images.
Ken has really nailed it with what I saw in this image above. There are zigzags everywhere, even on the steps and surface of the boat leading the eye around the image. I used the top of the electrical component box in the bottom of the frame to grab your eye and start from there...
Regards...
Love the shots your getting with the GR, only had mine a couple of days and haven't had the chance to use it in anger yet, but really looking forward to getting out and about with it. Perfect stealth shooter.
