And the K-5 has a greater number of physical buttons, which reduces the need to take the camera away from the eye to scroll through menus when changing some of the more frequently used settings. And other niceties, like a rear facing IR sensor.

By all accounts there's very little, if anything, to choose between them in IQ though. Not surprising as they share the same sensor (or so I understand).

Minor Change to scope of offer

Serial 1348537 will no longer come with the Pentax lens cap.
It will now come with a generic cap, the same sort as pictured with serial 1555506.

Looking again at the photo from the thread when I bought it, I can see it came with that generic cap. At some point, I must have transposed it with the Pentax cap from my M135, and the OCD freak in me wants to return that to its rightful place.

Sorry everyone, but the lenses are such bargains I hope you understand!

a real bargain at this price!
Thanks, Giorgio

I priced them low since they duplicate my other A50 1.7, and having three of them gives me no extra utility over having one.

I have to say I was fully expecting to have both my hands bitten off, and I'm rather surprised they haven't gone yet.

I could always put them on ebay I suppose. At least I know they'd go for a better price on there. But I'd rather a couple of forum members got bargains than ebay got yet richer.

I forgot to say my usual forum return policy applies:

Any and all known faults have been disclosed and if you think there's something wrong on receipt that wasn't then I'll refund upon return. And if you think I've misrepresented the lens in anyway, perhaps unintentionally through ignorance, then I'll cover your postage too.

Due to my compulsive buying addiction, I have now ended up with three of these famously sharp, manual focus, auto-aperture, prime lenses. And much as I love the 50mm f1.7, I don't need three of them. So two are for sale:

1. Pentax-A 50mm f1.7 Serial 1348537

This copy was bought through this forum, earlier this year, from member Cuchulainn.

Original sale thread: https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/mega-clearout-of-lenses-and-a-film-body--...

It is in the same condition that I received it in. The optics are clear, there's no fungus, no oil on the blades and the focus ring is silky smooth.

Cosmetically, there's a 2mm paint chip to the front of the filter ring. It's not on the thread and doesn't prevent filters being used. It could even be touched up but if you keep a screw-on rubber lens hood mounted as I did then it can't be seen anyway. Still, it's there so I've taken it into account in the price.

£40 + £3 postage. To include the proper Pentax lens cap and a rear cap.

Payment accepted by bank transfer from a UK account or through PayPal, but please add any charges if the latter.

2. Pentax-A 50mm f1.7 Serial 1555506

This copy came mounted to an immaculate film body that I wanted. Again the optics are clear, there's no fungus, no oil on the blades and the focus ring is silky smooth. No cosmetic blemishes on this one.

The only oddity is the aperture ring's 'A' setting unlocking button needs to be depressed to turn from f9.8 to f11, rather than when going from f22 to 'A'. There's nothing sloppy in the way the blades stop down or open up. It's just like having an f11 warning lock rather than an 'A' setting warning lock. And it's an irrelevance on any Pentax SLR/DSLR from last 25 years or so as the aperture would actually be set on the camera and the lens ring would be left permanently in the 'A' position. But, once again, I've taken it into account in the price.

£40 + £3 postage. To include a generic lens cap and rear cap.

Payment accepted by bank transfer from a UK account or through PayPal, but please add any charges if the latter.

Pictures

In all these, serial 1348537 is on our left and 1555506 on our right. The 2mm scratch in the paint on 1348537 is by the E of PENTAX. Incidentally, all these shots were taken with another Pentax-A 50mm f1.7. It just seemed the appropriate lens to use
