Pentax SMC DA 18-250mm

I bought this Pentax DA 18-250 secondhand earlier this year.

Advantages of the Pentax version over the native Tamron are the in-body lens corrections (for those with cameras with that feature) and the famous Pentax SMC coatings.

It will come boxed, with hood, both caps and serial card.

On scrutinising the optics in preparation for this ad, I noticed for the first time that there is an isolated dust speck behind the front element, near the centre (see photo). It's not uncommon for zooms to ingest dust particles and this speck has no effect on the output.




£250 + RMSD at cost (£7.55).

I have to say I'm beginning to have second thoughts about selling it. I went leaf and robin shooting in the woods during the week with my 18-135 and 55-300 and I always seemed to have the wrong lens on at the wrong time. I think I'll give it another week then if it hasn't sold I'll put up my Sigma 10-20 instead. That might make more sense anyway since I'm selling to raise money towards a 15 Ltd (ie attempting a more bank-balance friendly way of indulging my LBA!).

This is not aimed at Andy, or anyone, but I've had PMs from two or three forum members asking if I'd accept an amount considerably lower than the asking price. To save disappointing anyone I should perhaps have said from the outset that my price is firm. Sorry everyone - but it's already the cheapest Pentax version 18-250 around and I'm on the fence about selling it as it is!

Don't know if it helps but SRS have a used Samsung version for £219 if you can stretch to that?

Looks a bit grubby in the pics but it should clean up, and the SRS used warranty is second to none.

I tried to sell mine a while back ( last winter so didn't help with a lot of buyers seeing it as a travel lens + no box etc.)and couldn't even get an insulting offer so you are ahead of me

To be honest, with hindsight I'm glad as I've decided to keep it it's such a useful lens to have on 'walkabout' so I can just 'grab and shoot' . Wouldn't sell it now.

Think yours is well worth £250.

Personally I think £250 is a good price too. There are quite a few used examples for going for over £300 on ebay... but obviously it does't help if no one is buying it.

I've just got a 15 Ltd and 21 Ltd and while they are nice little lenses I surprised to see how well the 18-250 compares at the wide end. 15 and 21 are maybe a little sharper, a little more contrasty, colours a little a better, but it's not a walk over by any means and actually the borders on the 15 are softer than the 18-250 at 18mm (which is maybe not a fair comparison but there it is).

Having been watching the classifieds forum for a few weeks, it seems to a poor time of year to be selling lenses generally. And, you're right Sharon, it's probably an especially bad time to be selling a 'travel lens' (though I too think it's so much more than that). By contrast, in the spring and summer these don't seem to hang around for long here at £270-odd.

I've a parallel 'Buy It Now' listing for it on ebay that has a dozen watchers but, as yet, no takers. Mind you, I'm having to ask £275 there to cover their commission. I'm going to let that listing run until it expires but I'd much rather see it go to a forum member than sell there...

So is anyone interested at £240? (+RMSD and PayPal fees if applic.)

And if anyone is worried about that tiny dust speck then please don't be. It's actually quite hard to see it at all under natural light but in the photo the flash positioned camera left makes it much more noticeable. If a forum buyer thinks it's a problem on receipt I'll take the lens back. And if they think I've misrepresented the lens in anyway, I'd refund their postage too.

Please no offers though. The new £240 +RMSD/fees is already my 'best price'.
