Hi all.
I've been given the chance to buy a Sunagor 500mm f8 telephoto lense with M42 mount and K mount converter. It's a "normal" telephoto rather than a mirror lens.
What are these lenses like? Anyone had any ecperience? They only want £20 so thought it worth a punt - but bearing in mind how large it is don't want it to just sit around in a draw not being used if it is not a reasonable lens.
Cheers

I have to admit it would be nice if there was a 17-70 2.8 but such is life.

Tamron or Sigma do a 17-70 f2.8-f4 which is half the proposed price of the Pentax

Can anyone recommend a web site that reviews older lenses. I've looked on dpreview and can't find what I'm looking for.
I have just bought a Tokina 28-105 for a realy good price and although heavy seems to be what I'm loking for as a general walk about lens. I was just wondering if I could get some opinions on this lens and any known issues with it's performance.

Unfortunately the 24-90 is out of my price range. Anyone compared it to the Sigma 17-70 or Pentax 28-105? These are my current favoured options.

Thanks for that guys.
How much should I be able to pick up a Pentax 24-90 for?
Also how good it the Sigma 18-200. Someone has a secondhand one on the forum

Out of interest - what would people think is the "modern" equivalent to this lens? As stated before on the forums, I'm looking for a reasonably priced (<£250) walk about lense and this range (although this one is not quite wide enough) would be ideal as I have an 18-55 kit, and 70-300 telezoom.
Ideal lens would be a 24-135 or 18-125 type of thing

Thanks for getting back to me Simon.
Sorry to be a pain but I assume that you shoot in RAW. In which case what software do you process with? From the "natural" look of many of your images I assume that postprocessing is minimal......I'm struggling with RAW processing and have more or less given up and reverted to JPEG. It just seems to take quite a while sitting at the computer to edit a RAW when my JPEGs (using grads and polorisers) look OK - not a patch on yours but I don't think thats anything to do with the software - more a user issue

Simon, I like your images and recognise many of the locations as I live in the middle of the N.Wales coast. Which camera do you use and are most of the images taken with the 17-70. I use a K100D and am looking to upgrade my kit lens - was looking to get something a bit longer than the 17-70 but if your images are taken with one I may sacrifice the extra length.

I have the very same lens and paid £89 so Chris's offer should be snapped up. It is a really nice budget telezoom with a useful 1:2 macro. I really like mine. The only reason it doesn't stay fixed to my K100D is that I need a wider angle so use my kit 18-55.
