aperture from F11-F13, rarely F16 (which can actually make images softer due to diffraction limits)
good point, I should've mentioned that f16 is a good starting point, but you'll want to check your dof preview, and try opening up a stop, or more, as long as you're getting enough dof.

and if charts are too complicated for me, I mean you....here's a basic rule of thumb:
focus 1/3 the way into your scene (pick a spot about a third of the way between the nearest and furthest points you want sharp) , and set an aperture of f16 and check your Depth of Feild preview...

Thick skin...good sense of haha...and perserverence...
you'll get it.
this site is a really good resource.
you will need to try the manual... "custom functions" "custom menu" if you check the index. look for a chart and then "Using aperture ring"

There are times when understanding HOW sometings works (or does not work) is usefull.
A lens designer would need to know about different types of lens/ optical abberations.
I don't need to know any more than this (I not rightly, lump almost all those abberations mention above as "CA"), which of my lenses are worst, when do they do it, HOW DO I AVOID IT, if it is a constant problem, can I fix it in post or WHAT DO I REPLACE IT WITH....
With a little research, you'll find a lens in the pentax lineup that'll get the job done.
I have the 10-17 fisheye and the 16-45. CA is thus far not eating up all my profits (by wasting time in post) or costing me sales. Mind you I haven't tried to find out if there is a market for dark tree branches shot against a bright sky, into the sun, so maybe I'm just not doing it right.

a quick google shows the r1800 being a little more wasteful on ink, and not epsons best black and white printer....more than inferior to the 2400. I probably can't help much...
I think you may be out of luck, unless there is a newer driver, or some custom icc profiles for specific papers you can download from epson, or the paper manufacturer.

like the image though, hope you find a printing solution that does it justice.

what are the differences between the r1800 and the r2400? I have the 2400 and the b+w prints are top notch. (esp with Hannamule and epson's art papers (water color/ matt / luster)

eve lori-eh?
Last year I tried to ground one of my boys for swearing. I didn't understand what he was saying, turns out he was practicing for a French Exam. It all worked out in the end....the grounding gave him plenty of uninterupted study time. He gets mostly A's.
With teens, one should always err on the side of "Grounding".

(of course back in our youth, days, Gerri would've been praised for "Speaking in Tongues", with my background, while similar to Gerri's, me practicing French would've resulted in an exorcism, so I guess the boy doesn't have it so bad after all...).
