I've got a Tycka tripod, which looks to be a rebrand of the same thing.

It seems to me to be a pretty well made and thought out tripod.
I'm pretty sure it'll allow for shooting straight upwards, but I'll confirm when I get home this evening.
I see that you've decided on a replacement head but, just for completeness, I can confirm that the tripod in my link above does allow for shooting straight up vertically.
Thanks for that. I have decided to replace the head, but it's good to know the other one does vertical too..
Cheers.

Ok, I think I will probably go with a ball head and the focus rail, Have found a Benro IN2 at a decent price.

When you say "shoot vertical" do you mean portrait orientation or take a picture looking straight down at the ground?
Hi Peter.
I mean straight up.
When shooting my recent light trails, I had to try and set my camera on a box on the ground as the tripod won't go vertical.

I have a slik pro 400 dx, its a nice sturdy tripod, but it does not allow me to shoot vertical, I was thinking of getting a new ball head for it or just changing tripod altogether.
I was looking at a ranger classic, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Capacity-Rangers-Aluminum-Panorama-Lightweight/dp/B01FV...
The slik https://www.amazon.co.uk/Slik-Pro-400DX-Complete-Tripod/dp/B000JJ9JTA
Does anyone have the ranger one, and is it any good ? It does have some nifty features, like inverted shooting, and detachable monopod, but just getting a ball head will allow me to get a macro focusing rail as well.
I have an amazon voucher for £50 so thats the price bracket i am looking at.

Any thoughts welcome.

Mmm, remote island probably loads of interesting bugs and stuff, 105mm macro would have to be in there, 16-85 mm and a 150-450 mm
They would be my picks
