The lens looks mint. Performance wide open is very very good in the centre and good around the edges. Stopped down to f/5.6 it's outstanding centre and edges (with closer objects still OOF), and f/8 the whole frame is tack sharp from a few metres to infinity.

Very surprising lens - I rarely use these MF lenses but they do have that wow factor when they go on the K-1.
Cracking lens that is harder to find these days in this sort of condition. If I did not already own one I would have snapped this up.

Another point is that a criticism generally of the K1 and K1 mk2 is the small number of new lenses available, and that the older lenses do not compare well with newer offerings; upgrading is a relatively quick and easy way to address these criticisms.
I never understand this criticism of lack of lenses for the K1.

There is :
15-30 2.8
24-70 2.8
70-200 2.8
150-450 4.5-5.6
28-105 3.5-5.6
50mm 1.4
and now 35mm 2.0

All recent modern lenses (or revamp in case of 35mm). What are the complainants missing ?

Plus the criticism of older lenses not comparing well with newer ones, just needs a search of the various Pentax forums to show that is not the case. On a bench test, yes perhaps they lack, but with a real subject in front of them they perform as good as they did on film. Have a look at glamour photographer "Le Rolls" over at the pentaxforums.com He exclusively uses the FA* 85mm 1.4 with the K1

Alternatives are:- Sigma 8-16mm for APCS & Sigma 12-24mm for full frame. May not be constant aperture but they represent phenominal value for money.

This site has it : http://www.artistssignatures.com/monograms.php?page=3&letter=h but you have to sign up to find out who it is. I guess it depends on how desperate you are to know whether it is worth it or not.

Edit a bit further digging suugests Henri Le Jeune.
Thank you very, very much indeed for that Gwyn. I had in fact come across that site but did not particularly wish to sign up to it if it could be avoided. Your suggestion though of Henri Le Jeune is spot on. Initially (no pun intended) I thought the initials were H L. It was late in the day before I had the notion it could be H J L or some combination of those three letters and by that time I needed to retire to bed. Before doing so however, I thought there's nothing to loose by posting for help here in this fountain of knowledge that is the Pentax forum, and I'm glad I did so.
I googled his work and found the art that I was looking for so please accept my deep gratitude for the the time you took to research this.

Well observed but strangely sinister! That's not a criticism, just my thoughts.

Best regards.

I think they are are superb value for money on the second hand market and there are several on ebay at the moment. If you are patient and buy wisely you can score some excellent bargains well within your budget.

Good luck though with whatever you decide upon.

0 it's a Sigma.
Might be good opticaly but very poor mechanicaly.
What do you base that on,
Plenty of us happily using sigma on here.
No better or worse than any other brand.
I've several Sigma lenses, 8-16mm 12-24mm, 17-70mm, 100-300mm and they are all superb lenses.

Asahi Pentax Takumar 35mm f/2.3 with caps and case - Had been listed at £200.00 on Ebay. Today the seller reduced it to £179.99 minus an extra 10% courtesy of 'powpow10' brought the cost down to £162.00 plus £5.50 delivery.

This will complement my just ordered DFA 28-105 for the princely sum of £319.00 quite nicely. Thank you ebay!

Happy new year everyone.
