Love the last one especially David. ALways difficult to make snails look interesting I find!

Could we get back to the more interesting lens discussion?
I've had both the 103A and the 19AH and both are very good and although the latter is claimed to be the better I couldn't see much difference. The latter is an SP lens so should be better in theory and has slightly better macro performance. I think the 19AH cost me £60-£80 though.

Great shots. I didn't realise there were Red Squirrels as far down as Durham if that's where it was. Looks like I will have to pay my brother a visit!

I've not looked for a couple of years but have Which? had anything to say about Pentax DSLR's. Frankly, in the past I found their camera reviews seemingly quite lacking in any depth and real understanding of what they were looking at.

One problem I see is similar to how all of the Spectrums, BBC computers etc. fared against the 'pc'[/quote

I got an Amstrad 6128 with built in disk drive. IBM did take over the market when they launched the PC, but who has bought an IBM pc, I have always bought a IBM compatible pc or built my own.

Jeff
Yep, just found an Amstrad 6128 in my loft if you want any spares! Actually one just went on Ebay for £70. You could get a nice Tamron Adaptall SP for that .....

I'm right behind you on the "saving money" side of things. when everybody else was buying Golf GTI's, I preferred to have a Seat Ibiza Cupra Sport. When everybody else swore by Blackberry and/or iphone, I preferred Nokia and HTC. I've only ever used Pentax cameras because I like the look, feel, and picture quality.

(here comes the "controversial" bit, though...)

I cannot for the life of me fathom out why people buy Nikon/Canon/Olympus, etc simply because other people have bought the same camera. likewise with "designer" clothing and accessories. IMO, most of the time it is people with more money than sense that must have the "must haves" to keep up with their peers. I also believe that by making Pentax my choice of camera, or Seat my choice of car, or whatever, I am expressing my individuality and not being driven by peer pressure.
---------------------------
Splendid - and I have an HTC phone. Not sure how old you are but I did have an Oric computer and not a Spectrum! There is a pattern emerging here I think.
OMG - we all thought we were being individuals......but....

Skoda not Audi check
Nokia Smart phone not i-phone check
Atari not Spectrum check
Sandisk MP3 player not i-pod check
Betamax video not VHS check (I may be out on a limb there)
Sanyo VHS not Sony check
Teac personal CD not Sony Walkman check
Clothes by M+S not D+G check
Burger King not McDs check
Motorola Tablet PC not I-pad check

So - if we are not demonstrating our individuality - perhaps you all have ancestors from my part of the world. Or alternatively - perhaps we are all just skint

Carl
LOL - forgot to mention my generic Android tablet not i-pad!

[quote:3496ace15f="PeterKR"]Perhaps we should start a Skoda/Pentax club !
(Or should that be a Pentax/Skoda club ?)

I got my K-r for the same reasons I got the vRS -

This isn't meant to be controversial because I am just wondering. I had K-mount lenses in a bygone era and was naturally attracted to Pentax when setting out with digital SLR. I also like doing things on a value for money basis and don't tend to go with the flow when "image" is important. I am a Skoda (recent!) man rather than BMW. In body SR was a big thing at the outset because I could use cheap, sometimes older manual telephoto lenses with SR.
I have been very happy with my K-m, K-x and now K-r and probably will be with my K-5 or K-30 when I get it.
I tend to be very loyal and always find myself defending Pentax.
BUT, I have never used any other DSLR and let's face it, for whatever reason, the majority of others choose Canon or Nikon.
So based on my above pre-requisites was my choice really valid?
Probably a stupid question on a Pentax forum but would be interested on views from those that have used other makes in this lower price range.
Why would you be deluding yourself?

Sure various models of cameras/lenses will offer varying features of technical quality, but ultimately the quality of your photos is down to you, not the equipment.

Are do you mean you ( or we ) are being deluded by thinking the equipment makes the difference?

Just checking I think what most people are saying on here proves we are not and I don't think I am either. It doesn't hurt from time to time to stand back with an objective view though to make sure confirmational bias isn't creeping in.

I think they can - well at least I know Nikon can but perhaps they have less functionality.
