Thanks for the suggestion. I wonder if a pistol grip on the tripod mount might work.

Whilst the lens is great does anybody else find the tripod mount poorly designed. The mount is very close to the body so you can't get your hand between it and the lens. This makes it difficult to hold and I am always fearful of dropping it. There is also no way of attaching a carry strap to it. I have got used to the excellent design of the Sigma 150-500 which even has finger grips on the mount.

I have to say it's what you are used to seems the easiest if not the best, even though it may not be. I tried Lightroom but while I could see all the good features it seemed a nightmare just to open 1 file and edit and save it. It wants to open catalogues and there is no normal "save as" as such although I found out why and how.
Photoshop for me.
Of course it's easier just to open a single image in photoshop ( or equivalent ) edit and save it from explorer. But Lightroom isn't designed for that, it's designed as a photomanagement and editing system which you use on a continual basis not just for editing one offs. Like a big filing cabinet of negatives, where you can easily access anything for editing and 'printing' ( exporting )

For example I import very photo I take into Lightroom as a matter of course. So where you might open windows explorer, choose your photo and edit it in photoshop, I open lightroom choose my photo and edit it in lightroom. When working that way.

But in normal use I have lightroom open most of the time, so if I want to edit one of my photos, I just edit it. Don't even have to open anything

I think the point I was trying to make has been missed. I am happy to agree that Lightroom is good at what it does. If I'd have started out with it I probably would say the same. But having become familiar with Photoshop it is a very big learning curve to change to a different concept. I would add of course that my files are saved as raw and so can be reworked at a later date.

I've bought the 18-250mm from Paul and it was a very pleasant and smooth transaction and the lens is great.

If you can get a K-r body for around £190 I would say no contest for that use.

Hi Terry - I have the excellent KPS UMC 1.3x Magnifying Eyepiece which I have removed from my K-r as I now have the K-30 which has better pentaprism viewfinder and I no longer need this. I found it very useful, especially focusing in manual as my eyes aren't what they used to be. It is the same as this item on Ebay - 400337631066.
Send me a message for further details
