Mmm, I'm thinking of one of these as a "holiday" lens this is firming up my intention.

Well that was my thinking and I think it will do the job. I know these shots lack "punch" but amazing in the conditions. On a summer holiday I've got it covered from landscapes, people, butterflies and birds! Working with the Kenko was a bonus!

I recently acquired the Tamron version of the 18-250mm (thanks Paul!) to try as a catch all lens when I can't take my specialist long lenses.
It seemed pretty good and then I snapped this Grey Wagtail through my patio double glazed slightly tinted windows this morning. Not a great shot as such but I am staggered by the result considering how much was against it.
My K-30 was on TAV mode and it ended up at ISO 4000. There is no in camera or pp noise reduction. In fact the noise has gone up a bit because the downsizing I used sharpened the shot a bit.
Even more amazing I was trying the Kenko 1,5x converter with this lens which autofocused quite quickly. The light was poor and it was about to start raining. This one it autofocused in live view. Oh, did I mention it was at full zoom and max aperture, 1/200th handheld!
The blackbird is not through the glass and ISO 2000.

Great shots Danny. These rarities are often photogenic cf the Desert Wheatear we had in Essex earlier in the year.

David- your bird was most likely a Rock Pipit.

I'm afraid I've already replied to Christopher, above. Sorry,

If anyone wants a black Pentax MV1 film body they can have it for the cost of £4.00 for the P&P and petrol to the post office!
It looks in good condition, shutter and timer work, not sure about metering as no battery.

You're taking a chance sledger, and fomatting is best practice. It doesn't take long.

If you don't format then remnants of previous file structures will start to take up space on the card and you may get corruption of the files.

We format every time we re-use a card as ending up with a corrupted card, say at a wedding, would be indefensible.

I must admit it's never even occured to me. I've swapped cards between cameras, different makes of camera, any possible combination and never had a problem over several years. In fact I don't think I've ever bothered formatting the card in the camera in the first place. But now you've told me this ............

For anybody verging on the brink of buying a Pentax Q there are some really good price drops at SRS, such as £99.00 for a spare body and the 5 - 15mm zoom at £129.00. Or buy them both together for £199.00

http://www.srsmicrosystems.co.uk/c/502/Pentax-Q-Cameras.html

I hope this is allowed on this forum, but it is great news though I suspect they won't last long. Probably the last chance to buy the original Q.

All I need now is for the Q - K mount adapter's price to drop, I really need that shutter.
I picked up a Q body with a Q to 110 adapter and C mount adapter on the way. £99 for such a well built and well thought out camera is a steal.
Can you let us know what it is like with the 110 lenses?

I'm glad for the not so brilliant reviews. It may have helped push the prices down and now it's our little secret! I'd forgotten how much fun it is to carry a camera in your pocket. Love it.

I have a K5 coupled with a DA*300!
In my experience the 1.4x/1.5x will work well with this combo, but the AF will be much too slow (and sometimes hesitant) for birds in flights for instance, or fast-moving objects in general.
-----------------------
My experience as well. IQ quite good so worth it in some situations. K-30 + DA*300mm isn't that quick anyway for BIF compared with the opposition.

I've got this combination with the Sigma 150-500mm and haven't used it a lot but it was ok. Need to do some strict testing now as I also have the DA* 300mm which it works quite well with although both tend to hunt a fair bit.
