Thanks Alan, nice to get some feedback, I don't really mind if it's positive or not! Does your rule apply to butterflies too, as they look best with wings open and usually to get them like this they are facing away?

David

A few weeks ago I was lambasted by one of the Forum members for only posting my images on the Gallery and not in the 'Your Photos' section of the Forum. At the time I didn't know that the upload rules had changed and that it's now easier to post images on the Forum It was suggested that for 'constructive feedback' it's always best to post on the Forum, as the gallery images often don't get looked at by most of the members, and any comments posted on the Gallery are usually meaningless.

Since then, I've tried to follow this advice and whilst still posting on the Gallery, I've also posted some in 'Your Photos', including a set last night. I have to say that I've been underwhelmed by the lack of interest to my image posts on 'Your Photos' and have had very little constructive feedback at all - the ones posted last night haven't even been looked at. This is in marked contrast to Gallery images which almost always attract comment, some of it very useful. I'm beginning to wonder if it's just me?

So, I would be interested in what the members think, is it best to post in 'Your Photos' or on the 'Gallery'?

David

Sincere condolences from me too. I didn't know Tony but he always seemed to be a gent, judging by his posts on the Forum and comments on images.

At last we have had some decent sunshine and the Small Tortoiseshell Butterflys have come out in our garden. These were taken with the K-5 and either the Sigma 105mm DG EX Macro, or the DA L 55-300. I hope you like them.

What is the best way to test for this problem. Sometimes to me the camera just doesn't look "right" sitting on a tripod even if the horizon looks ok through the view finder.
Stan, the first test would be to out it on a surface that you know is 100% level, the check the level indicator in the 'Info' view (press 'Info' twice and it will display the level). It should be entirely central.

Secondly, if you have the 'Horizon Correction' switched on in the menu, and you take a shot that is 100% level in the viewfinder, but it comes out sloping on the image, you know there's a problem. Mine went from 100% accurate to about 10% off in no time at all and it had not been dropped or banged. I think it's something that just comes with the territory on the K-5 and Pentax clearly have not fixed it, even on later models which mine is.

My Pentax K-5 makes quite an audible and constant sound when using Live View, particularly when using long lenses. Is this normal or is there something wrong?
Mine makes no noise at all when using Live View on a tripod.

2 & 3 for me are the stand out shots, love them both.

Our beloved cat Honey, acquired the day after we got married, lived to the grand old age of 20 and died a couple of years ago. Beavis looks great for 18, especially in the reading glasses!

Best wishes for the K-5 Dave, sorry to see you've sold your K-x as it has clearly given you great service. I kept mine when I bought the K-5 and wouldn't want to part with it.

K-5 is fab, but watch out for the electronic level issues; mine was fine for 6 months then the level went way off and caused issues with images (if this happens, make sure you turn off the automatic horizon adjustment in the menu). Other than that, the K-5 is a superb piece of kit and I had withdrawal symptoms when mine had to go back to SRS to get the level fixed.

Brilliant Kirsty, I'm sure everyone on here is well chuffed for you! I think this vindicates what most of the advice given on the forum said; number 3 was the stand-out shot!

I hope this spurs you on to ever greater things and also encourages you to post some images on the Gallery and the Forum.

Best wishes
David
