I think you are right on this particular image, but when I've taken shots like this the flash ruins the atmosphere. I think it's the angle of this particular shot that makes it better with flash - it has produced some nice bokeh.

Here's an example of one from today without flash and there's another one of Christmas Tree baubles in my Gallery:

Superbly shot and the last one is so funny! Altogether a lovely set of images.

Nice, but why did you use a flash? Shots like this are much better in available light and if the camera is on a tripod it doesn't matter how long the exposure is.

I find that just the Christmas Tree lights provide a lovely soft effect and if a narrow-ish aperture is used you will also get some nice starbursts. although you probably need a longer lens for that because you would have too much depth of field with the 58mm.

I'll shoot alone...
I thought the Peak District was 'Down South'? At least it is for us Northerners!

I'm off to Scotland next weekend with Puma, 9 hrs driving for me once I've picked Shaun up I hope we get some pretty damn good photos!

Anyway, anywhere in the Peaks is fine for me and I'm up for an early start if this suits?

I haven't used a K10D but I suspect the K-x or K-r will give you better performance and will also be much lighter. My K-x is great in low light, with or without flash.

Hi Graham nice to hear from you. You have a good friend and mentor in Shaun and you will learn a lot from him.

Welcome to the Forum!

Why is this not also available on the K-5iis? The price differential on this is already massive compared to the standard K-5ii and not making the offer just makes the gap wider. I will keep my money in my pocket until the iis comes down in price.

In a way it's a bit pointless to state one's preference for a particular program - the next person to post will probably have a preference for another! There are countless image manipulation programs out there, from extremely basic to extremely complex and all will do a job in one way or another. I would encourage everyone to try out different software and settle on one that is comfortable for them. I use Photoshop as I find it very flexible and it does all I need it to. I don't want a 'one size fits all' approach and I'm happy to put individual effort into each image I process. I don't know if it's better or worse than Lightroom, but that's irrelevant to me as I'm comfortable with it.

I don't agree that 'Photoshop is for Graphic Designers and Lightroom is for Photographers'. Clearly, Photoshop is used extensively by Graphic Designers, but is is also used extensively by Photographers. I don't think it would be called 'Photoshop' if if were not designed to be used for processing photos!
