The K-x and K-r are excellent cameras. I have a K-x and a K-5, and both give excellent results which are difficult to tell apart.
The K-x is much more of an entry level camera than the K-7 / K-5 and importantly it does not have weather sealing. However, I agree that the images the K-x is capable of taking are excellent and may even be better than the K-7's in some circumstances, particularly at higher ISO's.

I would not recommend the K-x though, unless your budget is very tight, mainly because of the lack of weather sealing and also because it does not have any fine AF adjustment feature, which can be very useful with certain lenses. It would be worth saving up the extra to get a used K-5.

Lovely image Alistair, I don't think I would crop it. My only observations apart from really liking it are:

- I would possibly try to bring the shadows up a little to reveal a little bit of detail

- It may be worth trying to dial out some of the magenta tones which I think are being exaggerated by the cheap ND filter, but on the other hand these tones lend the image a mysterious feel

Hi Paul, thanks for posting these, I'm off up to the Lakes this weekend and expecting to get really wet!

I like the first two, with #1 being my favourite with the glorious Autumn colour. The second one could probably do with a little more contrast but it's a beautiful view and I would bet it also looks great in colour! I'm not so keen on the third one, it needs a bit more 'room to breathe' and doesn't really draw me in.

Welcome from me too! I agree with the posts above, forget the K-7 and go for a K30 or a K-5. The K-5 in particular is available new or used for a very decent price and it is a superb camera, even more so the 'MkII' versions.

I like to look back at my RAW files shot in the past to what I've missed as I often find some images that I should have processed. Here are four shot last year in the Lake District and Scotland that I've only just got around to processing; three of these have appeared on the Gallery in the past few days. I like them and hope you do too, all suggestions and CC encouraged!

Here's another one with a bit more of the yellow reduced:

Hi Nigel, thanks for sticking your head above the parapet again!

The second versions are certainly different, but I don't think you've sorted it out yet. There is a bit less yellow, but to me the colours in the second versions now look very 'washed out'.

Hope you don't mind, I've just downloaded the second image and made a single colour adjustment, to me this looks better:

These are very good Alistair:

You might also find the Kenko version of this polariser which I think is basically the same as it's made in the same factory.

Many congratulations Bill, that image truly is stunning, especially so as it was taken with the 'lowly' kit lens. I've always admired your landscape images and this accolade is richly deserved.

Also, as you have pointed out, it's testament to the quality of Pentax gear and shows that FF is not a 'must' to achieve success.

My priority list would be as follows Alistair:

- More capable zoom lens - 12-24 or 17-70 (or both)

- At least one decent prime lens, even an old one like the M28mm F3.5, which can be bought for between £30 and £60

- Rugged, reliable tripod - Redsnapper is highly recommended

- A reasonable 85mm kit of ND Grad filters - Hitech do a set of 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 which is a great starting point

- A decent 10 stop filter - I prefer the screw-in glass ones, Haida do an excellent one for around £50 in 77mm size (buy a big size and use cheap step-down rings)

- Last but not least, don't forget your telephoto lenses! I often use my 55-300 or my 100mm macro - they are great for isolating sections of a landscape

David
