When you compare both together the DA appears to have the weight closer to the camera. i think this contributes to the better balance, which in turn makes it feel lighter.

As I now have the Tammy 70-300 Macro and the DA 55-300 I thought it might be useful to do some comparison shots. All shots were taken as max quality jpeg with no further processing; sr off, daylight WB. Hoods attached and no filters. I took the same image at various focal lengths and apertures. Those of you who wish to can view the images here.

I think it`s fair to say that on every shot the DA beats the Tammy. Shots are brighter with more definition, and far less purple fringing. Interestingly, although the DA is 5gr heavier it actually feels lighter and better balanced on camera. I think this is due to the smaller overall size of the DA. I have not tried the close focussing abilities of the DA yet, but I expect it to perform well, within it`s parameters.
Current srs prices; Tammy=£129, DA 55-300=£275. Is the DA worth the extra? I think so.

Slightly off topic i know; I was in a small town in North Virgian last independance day, was particularly impressed by the reverance being paid to the American troops abroad, living and dead.

Seems over-sharpened to me, i think there is probably a good image here, but currently the halo`s are distracting, particularly around the margins where skin and shirt meet.
Sorry.

It is not lighter according to the specs I've seen.
I thought it was about 5gr heavier.

250-300mm is probably my most used fl range;my main problem with the Tammy is the ca. Will do some comparison shots with the DA 55-300 when it arrives.
Think I may miss the micro a bit, so I shall keep the Tammy for now.

but for 40 quid I am not complaining

I agree Womble, think mine cost £50 courtesy of Jessops. An absolute bargain, it will be interesting to see if the DA is worth the extra. Current new prices at SRS; Tammy £129 DA 55-300 £275

Cheers gents,
It`s decided, Sigma and Tammy going on ebay this Friday, SRS can expect a call tommorow. Guess I just needed a nudge; or maybe someone else to blame when the wife sees another lens arriving

Now that I have the fantastic 12-24 courtesy of Amin I do not see a use for the above. Thing is should I sell now or wait awhile, I have my eye on a used 55-300 at SRS (£209) and I think the sale of above could nearly cover it. Any thoughts oh learned ones ?
