Yes a Yorkshire meet.. this saturday.

I thought that i would set up a seperate message as the Yorkshire thread is getting a little long and people could be losing the thread.

Where? - Saltaire A world heritage site. It has good parking/rail facilites. We could shoot on the the village, canal, river, the park and always be close to a cafe if it rains.

Time: 10.30

meet: on the railway bridge by the station.

Saltaire is the next station after shipley on the Airedale line from Leeds.

I thought that this would be a good place as the week ahead looks pretty wet and must 'rural sites' will be quite wet. Also it is easy access by car, train or bus!

see http://www.martinruffe.co.uk/retrospective/saltaireBW1.htm for some interesting photos of this world heritage site.

The canal, river and Roberts Park are all adjacent to the station as well. I have also confirmed, with the owners, some possible photography in the amazing Salts Mill if it is raining.

Any one interested in joining us let me know so that we don't set off without you. If you prefer leave me a private message.

Hello all

With all this rain about I thought I woud share a holiday picture (the isle of Arran last week) to remind us that clouds can be interesting as well as frustrating! Taken with ds and kit lens

John

I am really happy with the sigma 50-500 digital. with my DS

It can be used hand held with a little practice. However with a tripod or monopod it is brilliant.
I have used it in the garden on blue tits and wrens, at an RSPB reserve for ducks etc. and hand held on riverside walks for birds such as herons and the shyer birds such as goosander. It handles lower light levels well.

Impotent spider has one and so does Gwynn in Holland perhaps they cn give you a more eloquent and technical report than I can.

Hello all

Here are two of my first photos taken with a ds and a sigma 105 macro hand held in the evening light. I have not made any adjustments with the computer.

Constructive criticisms very welcome as always.

Thanks Dave

Like Roger I would also appreciate some outdoor workshops .

I am a beginer but want to learn amongst a friendly interesting group such as pentax users. Unfortunately I find most cousres cpmpetitve and linked to a qualification. That is why I am ring to work with impotent spider to meet occasionaly and have a shoot.

Why not try running an outdoor workshop and see what happens?

Howard if I remember rightly the red squirrels at Formby are an introduced group that differ slightly from our natives in their colouring.

Nice to see people capturing British wildlife. Most of the photos in magazines etc are from abroad. People seem to forget the great traditions of eric Hoskings and Mike Tomkies.

Thanks for the comments Howard and Tim.

I tend to capture the moment with wildlife rather than consider the whole frame.

Every time the duck moved away from the weed it shoved its head in the water or went into the shade.

Such is life

That is why I need to save up for a K10D! Perhaps we british could train ducks in photography in the same way that the Americans have trained dolphins. It would save us alot time waiting for the right photo.

Thanks for trying to look. I have checked the link - it does work.
