Hello all,

I was at the Leighton moss RSPB reserve yesterday and manged to nab this picture of a teal using the DS and a Sigma 50 - 500mm. I have not altered the image at all.

Does it work as a wildlife image?

What improvements would you suggest either in technique or digital enhancement?

Looking forward to your comments
Thanks

Dave

John

Thanks

That is brilliant! This has had me puzzled for ages.

As always pentax user helps you find the answer to the questions you would not normally ask.

Thanks so far. Mr ist and John....

We have two systems in play. The fog slowly lifts...

1. One - the lCD is telling me how many images are left on the card.

2. two - A consecutive individual number given by the camear to each photograph.

If I review the photograph on the back back screen of the camera it shows it is a jpeg on the top left corner and on the top right it shows 100-1477. What is the 100 telling me? Is the 1477 the image number? If it is I have found out what I want. I can then write up my notes on the image in the field and relate that to the image when I have saved it onto the computer.

:

I know that this may seem very simple and that the answer is probably obvious but here goes..

What is the relationship between the number of the photos shown on the DS screen and the number assigned to the photo when it is downloaded? I cannot seem to make a link. The more senior I get the more I find the neeed to note the picture and its number as I take the shot!

Second question:

What is the numbering system used by the camera for each photo?

Hello Alan, Roy, tykes and people like me on missionary work here.

As spring is around the corner I thought that it might be a good idea to organise the secon meet of the Yorkshire gang. Actualy I would like to tap into the minds of the more experienced photographers (only certain sections Alan) and reduce my learning time.

How about a wildlife session at somewhere like Fairburn Ings reserve? Happy to meet midweek if given enough notice.

Hello Ken and welcome congratulations on wiining a competition. Perhaps one day i will take the plunge and be judged on my efforts.

This is the best site for getting good advice friendly advice,

I have the 18 - 55 lens and find it does a great job on my DS

I have considered the 16 - 45 but thought when would I need the slightly wider angle?I also wondered if I would actualy notice the difference in quality. Others on this forum have said previously that comparing the results side by side it is very hard to tell the difference in the quality of images with the two lenses

I saved my money took the kit lens and added the 50 -200mm

Enjoy the camera

Hello Graham I have a tamron 500mm mirror lens with adapter for my DS. I no longer need this and would be willing to sell it.

If you are interested send me a pm

Hello all

I have just read the january issue of Birdwatching. One of the letters is a stinging attck upon on photographers with 'fancy long lenses' taking photographs in bird hides. Apparentley they require maximum work space and occupy prime space for hours on end! They are unsociable, and elitist.

What do you think of that? I have never experienced this. Is any one out there guilty or are bird watchers misinterpreting the art?

The editor has invited replies so I am going to write a reply to the magazine. Any ideas for what youwould like me to include?

Well Alan I hear that Jackson Pollock is selling particularly well at the moment!

The canal in Leeds was interesting that night. Difficult to capture the essence of the scene. Here is my attempt at capturing the aprtments lit up and some refelections....

Constructive criticism gratefully received.
