I'd rather have the snow than the fog we've got at the moment.
My faves are No 2 and 7.

I think I've got some ideas in my mind, and I'm now going to do what was recommended earlier, and that's have a look through the photos posted here and see what configurations are used. I'm sure that will make me think of more questions but, as I said before, I'm in no rush and I want to make sure I buy when I'm happy with my choice.
So, watch this space.........or most likely, another space.

Never thought about a battery grip. I think that's because I'd never heard of one before........still learning!
Having looked up what it is, I'm not sure I'll miss it, but never say never.

I'd prefer to spend less for an easy life.
I'm not keen on portraits, although I have given candid/street shots a go and quite enjoyed that, though never got chased or arrested. There's limited opportunity for that, as I live way out in the middle of nowhere. I like landscapes/skyscapes, cityscapes (as above), wildlife, and macros. Wildlife photography is difficult for me at the moment as I only have a 6x zoom. You've got to be quite lucky with that.
The Fuji has a reasonble lens, and was quite a pricey camera when I bought it (I had a job). It has a decent range of aperture F2.8 to F11, so I can learn quite well on it. Max exposure is 3 secs.
My thoughts were an entry level body with a decent 18-55, 70-300, and a macro. I was asking about 2nd hand so that I could manage my costs and improve my lenses.
As I say, any suggestions would be welcome. I've been reading around the forum and so I'm getting a feel for the lenses.

Mmmm......if I buy the best camera my funds can stretch to I'll not have any money for the future lenses. LBA is something I cannot afford. I have to plan better in advance than that. I am retired and have limited income with very little chance of improving that, until family members pop their clogs. Much as I'd like better lenses, I'd better be careful what I wish for. I do wish I'd taken up photography when I could have afforded a new lens every month but, c'est la vie!

I'll let the long term member tell you if he wants to!
I have an old (12 years) Fujifilm Finepix 4900 Zoom. It's a sort of bridge, so it does a lot of good things, but obviously only goes so far. I have only been using the full features of this camera for 4 months, previously being an Auto addict.
I have learnt to be patient in waiting for an SLR until I have discovered the types of photos I enjoy taking and, therefore, what I will need in the camera and lens combination.
I have limited funds, and want to spend them wisely and efficiently. Any advice now is very welcome, but I'm not going to rush in and regret it.
Cheers,
ds

Good, logical, thinking, i-berg. I'll do just that!

Would you say I would be ok looking for a second-hand body or is it safer to buy new? Also, I am a bit reluctant to buy the kit lenses if, as I suspect, I'll just want to upgrade quite soon. I'd rather look for better lenses straight away even if they are used ones. I'm still learning about the different lenses, but I think that would probably be a more efficient use of my limited resources.
What do you think?
Cheers,
darkskies
