I only use the histogram to check for blown highlights. Even then the camera histogram often tells porkies.
I would never delete anything based on the histogram. That is quite a bizarre way to work.
Surely you look at the image?
All sorts of errors can be recovered back home.

I actually like the strong pattern of verticals and I like the colour version too.

Hopefully people will represent the art well, by good composition or waiting for a beautiful light etc.
I can't stand straight representations of art or architecture etc. - it seems at best unimaginative and at worse plagiarism.
This'll be interesting...

Snootchies, despite being famously unimpressed with the Tamron; having bought the 55-300, I completely agree with you and I now carry both! aarrrggh

I was immediately impressed with the image quality of the Pentax but that is it! in all other respects - focus speed, hunting, close up ability - the Tamron wins! ... I really feel like I just wasted £190.
The Tamron can produce sharp results if the light is good.
I find the Pentax excruciatingly slow to focus, it hunts noisily (embarrassingly) and SLOWLY, EVERY BLINKIN' time, unless I manually focus first and it even suffers from PF! although it is much better than the Tamron (which is franky ridiculous).
I think if I had a 90mm macro the Tamron would finally get left behind, but I'm going to have to learn how to focus the Pentax quickly, otherwise it'll end up on eBay.

By the way, nice pictures!

That's a great shot. Would look great on a wall.... then you will find out if the lens is any good.
As we are talking about image quality, this web-size image looks slightly soft but we can't tell much about your lens from that. Anyway I prefer that to over sharpened any day.
Colours look great here.

Cracking entries so far!
Whoever wins this can be very proud.
I was on a brand new orange lifeboat the Saturday before this competition and I had my camera but I was all photo'd out and could be bothered Wish I'd known...

Definitely worth starting with the raw. IMO
It is very interesting to see how much variation (ultimately data) can be drawn out of one file. I reckon that newcomers and veterans alike will get more from the challenge if it starts with a raw, whether they have a go themselves or just watch.

So far, the images above are 'darkroom' manipulations, rather than PhotoShop 'illustrations' - which is what you would tend to get if you only had a JPEG. (I reckon)
I'm happy to see lots of illustrative examples, but so far we're seeing purer examples of what can be done to fix or enhance a photo which seems fitting for a photographic forum.... and requires the raw file.
