I really quite like the bench.

Me too! I love the fact that 5 people go to the same venue and get largely different shots. And even the ones that are similar are still different.

Thinking of this, this, this and this, mainly in regard to your other thread Fiona.

It was nice to have a play with it on Sunday, and I'm still tempted to get one, but I really don't need it...

More accurate description of solarisation here - I had the gist of it...

I believe when something is 'solarized', some of the bright tones will turn dark, so think of a shot of the sun, where the disk of the sun would be black but the sky around would still be pale. Posterization is reducing the steps between tones, so that rather than a smooth gradation from dark to pale, we see distinct steps, as with Hyram's photo.

Hyram, I took 'a bit of tone' to mean a bit of colour, I thought it must have had a slight tint that I couldn't discern.

There are plenty of discussions on here about it. I just used a Giottos Rocket Blower with my K10D, and that's always done the trick. Some people don't like using blowers and prefer something like the Arctic Butterfly.

Here are a few threads on the subject: https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/search/sensor-cleaning

The only effects that have been applied are conversion to black and white (although the original is grey and grey), tweaking of the contrast and the application of a bit of tone.
Surely you've used a PS filter like 'Poster Edges' too? Or is the posterisation just a result of the contrast change?

Just had a look through them all, and there are some really nice shots there, and it's a very worthwhile exercise too - something I've never got around to doing.

I should really try to do something along the same lines, or at least do a blog post a day, even if it's with older photos.

As an aside, I think you need to clean your sensor. There's quite a bit of muck showing on Day 15, and also the washing line one. It won't show up when you're using your broken lens (what is it?), as f/2.8 will happily blur the dust too, but for the smaller aperture shots it can spoil them I think.

I'll have to remember to check back in a few weeks and se how you've been getting on.

Well that's very strange, because the original photo (the damselfly one) is 'stowe02.jpg', and is still online, but the one showing is 'stowe2.jpg'.

Let's try it again...

Perhaps I missed out the '0' in the original link and my server supplied the nearest match?
