Done a bit more surfing (it's lunchtime! ), found some more bits:

http://pentaxlife.com/old-focusing-screens-will-fit-k10d - apparently the same screens are used as for the istD series, so Katseyes etc will also fit. And, according to one source, the battery is the same as the Minolta NP-400, 7dayshop does a compatible one for £6.99 (http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_3&products_id=99219).

Some sample shots from the K10D here: http://nedbunnell.blogspot.com/, including 1600ISO. Look good to me straight out of camera. Guessing C1 or Silkypix could improve them further.

Link followed from http://ok1000.blogspot.com/ which has some other interesting bits.

Pity there aren't any examples of the higher ISO images as yet...

Matt,

Do you think I would be right in assuming that, as the settings for these images all seem to be 'standard', that the same quality would be obtained shooting jpegs in camera, rather than RAW then internal conversion to jpeg? I'd expect the same processing, but what do you reckon? If so, then they look very good, much better than the D's.

Although, I'd still shoot RAW 99% of the time.

Sorry Matt, slightly off topic again, but relating to your post - the German site has price as "999,- inkl. 18-55 mm Objektiv", which I'm guessing has to be Euros. So if they expect us to pay £999, we can all just get them from the continent instead.

I wonder when pentax.co.uk will catch up? Has anyone told them there's a new camera out? If you try using the German product ID in the uk web address, you get the message "This product does not existing."

Popped into 2 of my local camera shops today. In the first, the assistant looked a bit shifty when I mentioned 'the new Pentax', and he asked "what, the K10?", then went into the back room to look things up. When he came back he said they were on an info embargo until Photokina. When I said the details were already on the US and Canadian Pentax sites, he was a bit more forthcoming. I said I was only really interested in a prospective in-store date...

He said October/November.

I asked in the second shop, part of a large chain in the UK , and was met with "the what?". Not much help.

So fingers crossed, we might see it mid to late autumn.

Had another browse round, found it here:

http://www.pentaxslr.com/bodies/k10 with a specification pdf:

http://www.pentaxslr.com/pdf/K10D_Specs.pdf, although I don't think that's any different to anything else we've seen.

It's listed on Park Cameras with a SRP of £999 , they're taking pre-orders.

Perhaps they're saving it for the K1D

The grip looks great, nice to have the green button on there too, something I miss on the D. Also the spare SD card and remote storage are a bonus. I wonder if the grip will come with a battery, and whether the camera will work with just a battery in the grip, and not one in the body? That's how I use my D, for ease of changing batteries.

So much stuff to look through, specs-wise, and not enough time, got work to do.

$899 = £477, too much to ask they'd actually retail here at that, surely.

And you've got to question Pentax's marketing - the camera's shown on the US and Canadian websites, but no mention of it on the UK, or, as far as I can tell, the Japanese ones. When you think of the song and dance Nikon made of the D80, and Sigma's current SD14 webpage, it all helps to drum up interest. You can make the best camera in the world, but if you don't tell people about it, how are they going to realise they need to buy it?

Matt,

On the specifications page of the DPReview site, under 'External Flash':

Modes: Auto, Red-eye reduction, High-speed sync, Wireless sync

Is this what you were looking for? Seems odd that the icon isn't on the LCD though, perhaps it is just when using two external flashes, you know more about that than I do.

Looks like a cracking camera though, shame it doesn't take AA's.
