Does anyone know how many Sigma lenses are sold each year compared to Pentax ones? I'm guessing there are more new Sigmas around than Pentaxes, so even if the failure rate was the same as Pentax, there'd be more people with duff lenses.

I'm happy with my Sigma 10-20mm. There is distortion at 10mm, when the edges of the frame shows barrel distortion (I like to think of it as a smile ), but I don't use the extremes that often, and mostly my subject is nature, so straight lines are less prominent.

I chose the Sigma over the Pentax 12-24 for a) price and b) extra zoom range (which didn't overlap with my 16-45 as much).

P.S. If anyone wants a mural painted, I know a very good artist. (Not me!)

Too sharp? Well, I wouldn't go that far. I do enjoy using it, and it's nice and solid, but I haven't used a Pentax or Tamron to compare image quality. However, I've never had any complaints with it.

P.S. Thought you were in Inverness at the moment, from your post in the snow thread.

Hi Galoot,

Thanks for that, had a good morning in my local woods, the fog disappeared but it left droplets on the few bits of cobweb I could find. The shot of the burrs was actually with my 50-200 Pentax, but I most definitely used the Sigma for the bud.

And yes it is Chris at SRS. Ffordes up your way had a Tamron 90mm last week, don't know if they still have or what it's like, but they always get good reviews. If you're in Inverness, it might be worth popping in.

"AF is easy - you just look through the little piece of glass at the back of the camera and adjust the focus automatically using your eyes"

More like:

Take a picture.
Look at LCD.
See blur.
Move coin.
Repeat ad infinitum.

That's why I stopped when I did - don't think I didn't contemplate finding another teleconvertor and those other three tubes. Fortunately, the wife was at the station so I had to stop.

Brian, I'm surprised you haven't had a go yet - what about your 400mm with 10-17 reversed?

Actually using the 70-300 at 300mm. 6 extension tubes are around 140mm. Got another 3 somewhere...

As an exercise in patience, it's been rewarding, but practical uses...? Bearing in mind it's taken me about 30 minutes to focus the thing.

Sigma 70-300, Sigma 24mm reversed, 6 extension tubes and the Pentax 1.7x convertor, lots of patience.

Closer, but not the best quality...

Just had a look at your source html, didn't realise you've embedded the links part as an object, thought it was an inline frame. Haven't tried this method myself so don't know how things interact. Also can't find my HTML book at the moment so can't look it up either.

I've used iframes in the past, very similar way of doing things, you could try:

<iframe name="links" src="links.html" frameborder="0" width="170" height="800"></iframe>

That might not work at all, or if it does, it might render it differently in different browsers. I use it on my website www.DanielBridge.co.uk for the 'advert' type of thing on the right hand side - "Looking for Greetings Cards...". That's an image (with an image map to provide links) in a webpage in an iframe. I also use them for the menu bars, the 'subscribe' box top right, and the copyright notice.

Just looked at it in Opera and it's fine there, so it must just be the way IE deals with frames - good job they're all designed to a standard!
