Do you have to use the settings "ISO 200/30secs/f32"? If not, then simply alter the exposure to compensate, if it's the 30s exposure you're after, try ISO 100 and f/16 to get a lighter image. Don't fret that one camera exposes differently to another, just get the right exposure with the camera you've got.

Just a thought,
Dan

Hi Denise and welcome to the board!

There have been a couple of threads about this that I know of:

https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2557

and earlier:

Several of us have had a dabble with it, with some good results - the sensor is certainly sensitive to IR, so you just need a filter and you're away!

Probably best to shoot RAW, then process to a 16bit TIFF to allow a fair amount of manipulation, as the tones always seem to be quite compressed when I've done it.

Hope that helps,
Dan

You certainly don't need to use the lenses at open aperture if you don't want to - in manual mode you can stop the lens down to any aperture you like (using the aperture ring) and take a meter reading. The open aperture thing is only relevant in Av mode, when the camera does not close down the aperture on these lenses.

So the lenses you have will work fine with the K100D, just in manual mode.

Wherever you found the contrary information after 'further research' was wrong, you'll get accurate info here!

If you had a manual focus lens which had an 'A' setting on the aperture ring, you would be able to use all the exposure modes on the camera.

It would be nice of Nikon to release a firmware upgrade to fix these issues...
That would be very nice of them.

Ah, thanks John, she's mine. I think she's fantastic too.

Taken with a 50mm lens (on 35mm film), can't remember the aperture, but probably around f/4 or 5.6, lit by the window in front door (door used to be mostly glass, and faces north), metered from a grey card.

We'd just had the new carpet on the stairs, and I thought she'd look nice against it. I seem to remember wiggling my finger above the lens to make her look.

For cats, I would suggest either:

Cats that are calm, and who'll just sit and watch you as if to say "What are you doing?"

Playing with the cat until it falls asleep.

Using a toy to attract it's attention.

I wouldn't bother trying to sit it somewhere it doesn't want to be - find out where it sits, then work around it.

P.S. These were all taken on Provia 400, and all I can say is 'How much grain???'. Makes you glad to be shooting digital now.

That's a beautiful shot Prieni, very 'other-worldly'.

Have to say though I think your border needs to be wider, the image looks a little cramped in there to me. I prefer it like this (hope you don't mind me 'remounting' your photo, I looked for one of my own to use but kept being drawn back to yours, let me know if you want me to delete it):

Prieni's photo, looking wonderful!

This is how I would mount a square shot:

I tend to make the top border narrower than the sides, perhaps that's just me.

Peter's gone to Jessops because he won over £200 of vouchers in a couple of competitions - I'm guessing that played a large part in his decision to buy the camera from them (and probably to buy the camera at all ).

Also note though, that in a previous thread Peter did say that the store had one on display, but he wanted one unsullied by the hands of others - hence he had to place an order. I'm guessing he may have had the same result at Cameraworld.

Peter, I'm popping over there tomorrow morning - do you want me to have words?

But the worst bit, the real let-down. The price

They list it as £750! and then say that street price is around £680.
If they're refering to the Body+Kit Lens, then that's right - if they're saying Body Only, then they're wrong. Write to them and point out their mistake - if they print a correction, that's more page space for Pentax.
