I'd look at picking up a second hand DS which doesn't need modding rather than risk damaging the D
As far as I know the sensor and filter would be the same on the Ds as it is on the D. IR sensitivity is okay on both, but with the filter removed I'm guessing shutter speeds would be much less - handholdable?

Nothing to do with Pentax stuff, but as many of us are computer users, and some like to play around with designy type things, I thought I'd pass on this link to a heap load of free fonts. Haven't looked through them all myself yet, but there are plenty of them there, and there's a good mix of handwritten, traditional, odd, etc, so if you're looking for a particular type of thing, you may well find it.

A good selection of quotes and jokes illustrate the various fonts too.

What's the difference between roast beef and pea soup?

Anyone can roast beef.

According to Page 11 of the Pentax Photo Laboratory manual, PC-F is USB1.1 spec (F for 'Full Speed' I guess), whereas the PC one is USB2.0 (High Speed).

In the info box there it says "If the USB transmission speed of the computer is slower than that of the camera, an error may occur during transmission of the data. If this occurs, set the Transfer Mose to [PC-F]. This sets the transfer speed to the USB1.1 data transfer rate, thereby reducing the possibility of an error."

This also works with IE7.

It would be worthwhile checking that they are selling the P-TTL version, not a TTL version which may be available at the moment, but which may be being replaced with a P-TTL version next year. I don't know if that's the case, but it might be.

It says the Pentax P-TTL version will be available in 2008. Have you actually seen a Pentax version advertised?

...did you set it up specially and what is the relevance of ‘Elyce’?
Ahh, thanks Lilly! This was taken at a wedding in the summer, and these were on the tables to show where people were sitting - Elyce is my niece. Girls had these, boys had corks with cards in the top.

Right, well, I'll have a little think and post a theme for this week shortly. Might make it an easy one with plenty of opportunities for pics...

Actually reading my one back it looks like I mean 2 jpegs or one raw file. Sometimes you can get away with just the one raw file, but as I always shoot raw, I did mean 2 raw files.

I use a grad so rarely that it suits me more just to do the 2 exposure thing, but it's obviously better for you and your workflow to use the filters.

If the scene you're shooting is high contrast then there is a good chance part of the detail will be beyond the Dynamic Range of the camera & that detail is lost. Using an ND grad in these situations ensures that ALL the detail in the scene is captured.

Also even when shooting Raw, recovering shadow detail in high contast scenes can generate unsightly shadow noise which, whilst removable using Noise reduction software again destroys some of the original detail.
Which is why I said you may well need to take two photos at different exposures. This can often be quicker than getting the correct filter on the lens, getting the position of the filter just right etc. Might be the difference bewteen a shot got and a shot missed.

Also I'm much happier taking photographs than I am spending time on Photoshop
This is true!

The thing I dislike about ND grads is if you have a tree that projects above the skyline, and you end up with the top of the tree being much darker than the bottom. Similar things happen with mountain tops. The Old Man of Storr springs to mind too. Filters are best (IMHO) when you can't tell that they've been used.

Oh, and never, ever, ever have a sky darker than it's reflection!
