I doubt dropping the Km did them any favours either. The Kx is an excellent camera but it isn't a Km replacement - it costs about £200 more.

I just use these polarisers

Cheap, but not nasty. I tried a test a pro friend told me about (basically look at the TV through the polariser and rotate it, if the screen appears to go black then you have a good one) and the three I have from that brand passed.

Incidentally, your 28mm lens doesn't take 28mm filters. The thread is 49mm. I'm not sure about the 24mm but if you look here you should be able to find out.

That would explain why I can't find an SMC Takumar 55mm f1.8 for sensible money!

I have an ESII that seems to work ok but that I only paid £10 for, so I'm waiting for a cheap lens to go on it. I saw a Super Takumar 55mm f2 last week for £15 with a fungus problem, if it had been an SMC f1.8 I'd have bought it. I really don't mind cleaning lenses out if they're a fairly simple design.

As for that village in Wales Matt!!!
It translates as "Valley of the (river) Ystwyth". Good photography country, something for everyone. You can have wild moorland, old mine workings, the waterfalls at Devil's Bridge or the sea within about thirty miles or so!

Just a point, but all my 35mm AF Minolta lenses fit Sony as well as my Maxum 7D which is APS-C. I don't own any cropped Minolta/Sony lenses. In fact if you look at some of the Minolta 35mm lenses and then add the range of Sony cropped glass, it reveals a huge choice of lenses.

Regards
It's true that the later AF (Dynax mount) lenses work on the Minolta/Sony DSLRs but there are a couple of decades' worth of manual Minolta MC/MD mount lenses that nobody seems to want (or can use). I had a load in as part of a larger job lot and while a few genuine Minolta ones sold on for peanuts (99p-£5 each) I'm still stuck with a few off-brand MD lenses and teleconverters that I can't even give away.

Not a problem I've ever had with *any* Pentax lens...
Yep, that's the point I was making. I'm not even sure if there are any old MF primes that will fit Sony?

On the other hand, if it sells more K-xs and gets Pentax more widely recognised...

*As opposed to those Ricoh ones with the extra pin that jams in your AF screw drive.

The Takumar Bayonet 28mm f2.8 isn't a bad lens, I've got a nearly mint one here that I have tried on digital. I might suggest a polarising filter to improve the colour rendition, as mine seemed a bit lifeless.

There are websites that will tell you how to fix the filter thread, although I'd be a bit more worried about the scratches on the rear element - from what I've read these are more serious than scuffs on the front element?

I think it's a case of being ok to put your county (or large city if you live in or near one) but I wouldn't want to put my town in.

For example, saying you live in Cardiff would be fine. A tiny village like Cwmystwyth? Not such a good idea!

(No I don't live there. I have driven through it a fair number of times though!)

On a serious note, one of my first test shots with any lens is generally one of the kitchen cupboards. The wood grain is very good for showing sharpness.

The 28mm f3.5 is here, and it is pretty much mint. I'll give it a quick test later, although a proper test will have to wait until after the weekend as I've got an 8hr shift working backstage with a band later on
