And now I'm a bit more awake here's the original that it was cropped from - I think this was in Av mode so f3.5

Pentax-M 28mm f3.5 seems to be pretty good - this is a heavy crop, taken from the roof of a car park (Capitol in Cardiff) of the neighbouring station:

I tend to have two distinct ways of using my Km. I do try to take photos with artistic merit, but I'm just as prone to putting it on green and using it to record an event or object for future reference (or just to take photos to post online). Sometimes that doesn't work - for example, taking photos at an indoor climbing wall had me using Av as I wanted the widest aperture (needed a high shutter speed) and I needed to take it off auto white balance to deal with the tungsten lighting. But in general the camera is pretty good if left to its own devices - you'll get properly exposed in-focus shots.

I can do it manually, I love using my MX. But for the sake of speed when getting a shot is more important than the art of photography I'm glad my Km has auto modes.

I think I saw an A 50mm f1.2 approaching £200 recently, I'd be amazed if anyone got the K series for much less.

In both series they would have been a rare lens. The K 50mm f1.4 would have been the standard 50mm in that series, in the A series the f2/1.7/1.4 would have sold in far greater numbers.

The 100-300mm is a decent lens, I have the older version without power zoom (I'm led to believe that the optics are the same). I paid £60 for mine last year.

The problem with the 28-80mm length is that Pentax have made a couple of lenses that are best avoided - those without the SMC coating are nothing like as good as those with it. I know one variant of Pentax-A 28-80 (also sold as a Takumar-A) and one variant of Pentax-F (also sold as a Takumar-F) have the non-SMC coating.

I have one of these in silver which is a pretty decent performer.

I also have the FA 28-90mm which you might want to look at - I know this was the kit lens with the MZ-60 but I'm not sure about the MZ-6. Either way it's a handy lens with the extra reach.

I think there are a couple on ebay, although they'll probably go for silly money due to being an unusual prime.

Primes are generally sharper than zooms, as they don't have to accommodate parts of the lens moving to change the focal length. That said, shorter zooms such as 35-70mm are usually better than longer ones. This is why we don't all just own an 18-300mm, and also why I keep an eye out for a mint F 35-70mm as it's said to be one of the best zooms Pentax have made.

I spotted the MX - looks absolutely perfect.
