This is not a great place to be selling a K10D if you want to get more than a very low price for it.

The vast majority of members here will already have a dSLR of K10D vintage or later (quite likely *and* later, unless they sold it quickly when upgrading), so to sell it you'd need to find someone who wanted another one.

Anyone with a K20D or later is unlikely to get a K10D as backup unless it was very cheap.

You'd be better off on eBay, where the audience is much bigger.

Interesting stuff. I'm probably about to make the exact same jump. Making the AF actually work on the 55-300 is a nice bonus! I just figured it was the cheapness of the lens.
I've not had any problems with the 55-300 AF - before I got the K-5 I used it extensively on my K10D at airshows and found it excellent, if not quite long enough.

Problems arise because of two things:

- Its long focus throw means that to go from one end of the focus ring to the other can take a while.

- If you lose a moving subject from the centre of the viewfinder, the AF will hunt.

I use auto AF-point selection to get over this at airshows - it effectly makes the central area much bigger, so I'm less likely to lose the subject.

The trick is to use QuickShift to get the focus in approximately the right place before you ask the AF to go to work. It's quick then.

True, but the presence of an SSL certificate and the padlock is not evidence of everything being above board.

They also have the distinct advantage that in the very rare cases where an engine does fail, you can land in a field. Pilots are all trained to fly engine-off approaches and landings, and the sensible ones practise such techniques.
Actually Chris in fact this happened on our final approach to land, the pilot who has been flying for many years turned off the engine and we landed on a glide approach. I had no doubt that we would land safely but we were all surprised to say the least
Actually turned it off, as in pulled the mixture to lean? That would be a little unusual to say the least.

It's more common to fly glide approaches simply by closing the throttle. The prop continues to spin, but provides virtually no power.

This makes a very late go-around possible if an obstruction is suddently noticed on the runway, since power can easily be reapplied.

What were you flying in, by the way? The AirTourer looks very nice, but what was yours?

Great prop blur, nothing worse than a propellored plane flying with a stationary prop.
Unless its prop is actually stationary. It looks even stranger from the cockpit, trust me on that.

I'm not clever, but I am called Chris, so since we have something in common I thought I'd say hi.

Hi.

By the way, what is a lat-long HDR image? I know what lat-long is, and I know what HDR is. But together, no idea.

What has lat-long got to do with exposure?

have any specs been released?
Nope. There's been no announcement at all. Rumours are ten-a-penny.

If money was no object how much better than the K5 can it be?
Loads. They can always be loads better.

The K-5 is good, but it's not perfect, and a little Googling will reveal a truckload of improvements people want.

Am I correct the only place where the total images are stored is on the card only, is there a memory location in the camera where this is place?
No, and yes, respectively. This one comes up from time to time, and it's very confusing until you know what's what's going on.

There's an option (isn't there always!)...

First up, check your memory setting.. p2 of the Memory entry on the RecMode menu. It defaults, IIRC, to remembering the file number, and using its saved sequence with new cards.

However, it won't reuse a file number if it's already taken on the card.

- If the image number on the card is GREATER than (or equals) the number the camera's expecting to use, the one on the card overrides the saved sequence and the camera starts counting at one more than the one on the card.

- If the image number on the card is LESS than the number the camera's expecting to use, the card is ignored and the camera's saved value takes precedence.

John's method works because the camera's saved 'next image number' is always greater than the max image number from an empty card, so it uses its saved value.

I think. You can read all about my struggles understanding this little jewel if you like.

It's quite easy to sort out, though, and get the file number equal to the shutter count if that's what you want to do.

PhotoMe is what you want, to check the shutter count.

Sorry to hear that Chris ,how much do you want for the K-5 I wouldn't mind having a spare
I could swap you a nice K10D for your 500mm
