Leyton Cameras - Scam Website

Members be aware that there are currently some good deals being advertised on a web site purporting to be Leyton Cameras. The site appears to be genuine ( well it did to me) but please do not be tempted to order any items.

This past week end I went on to the site and attempted to order a Pentax DA 16 -45mm lens which was being advertised at the bargain price of £140.00 on a 30 day sale. All appeared well until after I had supplied my address, credit card and security code details but thereafter, I was given a message that "this card is not recognised, try again or use another card" Smelling a rat I did further research and discovered that this is a scam website. Credit card (x 2) cancelled and replacements ordered but thought I might spare another member some grief by posting here.

If you went on to the actual site in Leyton High Road you may succeed in buying some petrol for your car but doubtful you would find a camera other than one used to record CCTV.

There was a thread about this scam here a couple of weeks ago but it has since gone awol. You might, perhaps, have been forewarned otherwise.

a friend of mine nearly placed an order for a Canon 60D, which priced about 20% cheaper than the normal price. i did a research on the review of this website, and it's turned out to be a dodgy website. as far as i remembered, they offered the payment method of BT, which really makes me suspected.

Sorry, but the very first thing you should have noticed is that a UK shop has prices in Euro.

A quick check of companies house shows Silver Centre (UK) Ltd's registered office is in Preston, not London. The company's sole Director, Chiu Ki Tung, lives in China.

The fact that the card page does NOT use SSL is another big giveaway.

Frankly I get a bit fed up of people saying "the site which has prices 20%-50% less than everywhere else is a scam". Of course it is.

It's good to warn people, but at the same time some personal responsibility is required I think. These sites are obvious scams.

I found this site very recently too while looking for bits and pieces, but hadn't heard of them before..a quick Google search turned up several threads highlighting the nature of the site - I steered well clear!

The old adage 'if it looks to good to be true it probably is' holds true!

You're welcome, I have been shopping on the internet for many years and have not previously been caught out so I thought I should make members aware.

Definitely worth posting - the more people made aware of these types of thing the better!

Hey, I put in my Bank Details in this website and it said that this card can not be used. Do I need to change my bank card or should I be ok as long as the payment did not go through ???

I would ring your bank, tell them the situation and see what advice they offer... Make a note of the advisors name and the time you called so if anyfuther problems arise you can refer to that call (all calls are recorded)even if they don't cancel your card...

NO, you gave them your card details and presumably your name and address so contact your bank immediately

A tell-tale sign with many scammers is they dont use SSL and no padlock symbol appears on the page.

You have just given them all the details they need to make fraudulent internet purchases with your card. Contact your bank ASAP and tell them you suspect your card details have been gained fraudulently. They should put a hold on that card immediately.

Hope it isn't too late and they haven't got around to using your "card" yet.
