Personally I don't think there will be hardly any difference over the K-5/K-5II Iso wise (or DR) but you do have the extra MP for cropping harder (if needed).

Totally agree but if you consider he is the owner of the forum and has access to (or owns) probably every lens Pentax make or have made then I would hope he tested one or two before posting that remark.

This quote from Adam on Pentaxforums has got me slightly concerned tbh ... hopefully it's just because he was previewing a demo unit with incomplete firmware.
I would say that the improvements made to the AF system are nowhere near as significant as the other new & improved features, such as the movie mode or burst framerate. Adding more AF points is a start, though. Too bad they don't cover a larger area.
AF speed is going to be a lot harder to assess - stick a notoriously slow-to-focus lens on the front like the 60-250, and it's never going to ultra quick, since the motor will only drive the glass so fast.
Even with a lens you know well, it's hard to be objective without lab testing, and we'll be wading through a world of subjectivity when people write up their reviews.
At one extreme, there will be people with unrealistically high expectations and/or aren't the most skilled, who are disappointed and then complain bitterly, and at the other, there will be those for whom confirmation bias will kick in, and will love it no matter how good or bad it is.
Doubtless it will be better than the K-5II. How much better remains to be seen - I think I'll need to own one to have much of an idea.

[quote:3496ace15f="ChrisA"]Having been in a photographic limbo for a long time, this might be enough to tempt me into taking pictures again.
Nice to be remembered. It's been a while.
I didnt spot you in any of the limbos I've been in[/quote]Thanks !!
It's been a very non-photographic kind of limbo. The sort where I've been completely peed off with trying to take any photographs of anything. Not enough skill (most of the problem), not enough time (also most of the problem), and ongoing disappointment with the K-5 AF speed for fast jets and fast birds (which is mostly what I like photographing the most).
I was thinking seriously about going to Nikon back in the summer, but I tried a D7000 and a friend's D700; didn't like the D7000 much, did like the D700 but what a beast, to say nothing of the incredible expense of going to a system like that. So I crawled back into my hole and then the K-3 rumours started.
It might be just the ticket. I await the reviews with great interest - I'm sure it will be very good indeed, it's just a question of whether it's good enough for the specific things I need. I'm trying desperately not to get my hopes up too high just yet. Suffice it to say that if it's what I'm hoping, I shall be looking for people's grannies to sell.

Uses same battery at least but after scanning the specs a couple of times I don't see any mention of twin card slots?

A lot of work to redo it, but I wonder if it would be worth going through the stills and cloning the aeroplanes out?

I must disagree with those who dismiss this as an unnecessary frill
, for the simple reason that the lack of this simple feature helps make Pentax uncompetitive in today's camera world.
Not as high as fast, responsive, predictive AF, for example, or any of plenty of other features that people have been asking for.
Now more than ever, people are into "retro".
My Pentax meters only when I press the green button, and this is notoriously inaccurate.
Given that even with Ricoh at the helm, the R&D budget isn't going to be unlimited, it's much more important for them to be addressing the big problems than the little ones.
If Green-button metering was still as rubbish as it was in K10/20 days, then I'd strongly agree with you, but it really isn't.

It also brings an awful lot of new possibilities to the table with it's Flu Card (Can't you get a Jab for that?)
