It was set to spot metering. Could that be the cause?

I see what you mean Gareth. I found the Exif data. I did not manually select Tungsten so I am puzzled how it was selected. As far as I know the K-x was on AWB. I have a video clip where it starts out with a blue tint which disappears half way through. It's as if the AWB is thinking one minute this is tungsten lighting, and deciding it isn't.

Well it was on the Auto Pict setting - so I presumme that was on. Would you set the white balance manually for each situation?

Every so often I am finding my photos and video clips going a strange strong blue tint. Here is an attached example.

Any suggestiong why?

Just bought one. Seems good - it certainly makes taking video outdoors easier. You have to remember to remove the door and frame part when taking stills - so that you get information and a preview on the screen. It slides on and off easy - leaving just a frame which is held to the screen by gummy glue. I bought one of the standard 2.7 - 2.8" screen shades - which seemed to be marketed at compacts - as I could not find one available for the K-x. Got mine from Amazon.

In my case though I am just wanting to take nice video clips of my children etc.
Puma, thanks for the suggestion re the Delkin popup shade. I have looked on google and cannot find one specifically for the k-x. Can I ask which version did you buy?

Is it just me or do other K-x owners find it really tricky recording video? I have achieved some nice video clips but I find the experience of trying to film video so awkward. The image on the camera screen seems so small and difficult to see on a sunny day. I have point and shoot cameras such as the casio exilim and kodak Z950. These seem really easy to use for video - with a nice bright screen. Perhaps I need to do some adjustments to my k-x?

Can I just chip in that the Pentax hoods sound ideal but they seem so expensive. About £27 each - just for a cylindrical bit of plastic.

Great shot. I can see how the catchlight really does work. I like the way the bokeh has turned the Christmas lights into magic blobs.

I am a bit confused. Are you saying that you would not normally use the catchlight when in portrait mode? If so why not? I presume this particular photo you did you the catchlight?

Another question, had you used the stofen for this particular shot, what sort of problems do you think would have arisen?
