Hi Matt,

thanks for your feedeback.

I'm still unsure how to overcome the issue of slower shutter speed for macro shots. Even if I use a slave or other external lighting the istD still won't "let" me increase the shutter speed.

Are there fancy menu options that I need to adjust? How do you overcome the default features using external flashes or other lighting?

Thanks

Jimmy

thanks for the detailed responses guys. I must admit I thought that might be th case and I actually started looking a external flashes last week.

Looks like I'll have to move a little faster on that

Howdy,

I'm demonstrating just how much of an amateur I am with this question but I'm hoping one of you gurus can help.

How do you increase the sutter speed for the *istD when the pop-up flash is on?

When I engage the flash it overrides the shutter speed and won't "allow" a faster shhutter speed than 150. This is very annoying especially when using trhe flash for macro stuff.

Why does it do this and is there any way to turn it off? I'd love to get really quick shutter speed for insects etc

Thanks

Jimmy

Thanks for that feedback guys.

I'm also interested to know your thoughts on getting a longer lens for macro shots.

I've had a look at the Tamron 90mm. It was nice but to achieve a serious close-up you need to get very close to the subject. I would have thought this would be a problem with insects etc.

Am I better gooing for, say, the 200mm instead?

Finally, how do the 1:1 Macro lenses go with a 2x teleconverter? Is there a noticeable difference in the magnification or is it pretty much the same at that level?

Thanks guys

James

Hi,

has anyone used the new SMC P-FA 100mm F2.8 macro? Or even the smc P-FA 200mm F4.0 ED?

Are the any good? Positives vs negatives etc? How do these compare with the Tamron equivalents?

Matt, I saw in a previous posting that you like the SMC-F 100mm/f2.8, is this the new one or an older version?

Thanks

James

Hi

I am interested to know what people think of the new macro flashes (the ones that go around the lens). The Sigma EM 140 DG is an example of what I mean.

Are they really any good for macro photography? Are they any better than a standard flash?

Thanks

Hi.

I know most people in these forums favour Pentax lenses but I wanted to see if anyone had an feedback on a couple of the Sigma Macro lenses.

In particular I'm interested to know what the practical differences are between the 180mm F3.5 Ex and the 150mm 2.8 Ex?

Obviously there are things like size and weight but in terms of the operation is the only major difference the minimum focus distance (the 180mm lets you be a bit further away)?

Any feedback would be great

Thanks

J

Howdy

I recently purchased my first copy of Photoshot CS and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good websites that have basic a pointers

To be perfectly honest I didn't realise just how complex it was. I've purchased a couple of text but they are extremely technically detailed and I was after something just a little bit less daunting to start with

I'm just after simple things to start-off, like determining the right size to print the shot, basic smoothing of edges etc. I will move onto the more complex stuff later

If anyone has some suggestion I would appreciate it

I´ve seen that there is an infra-red remote control fro the *istD

I just wanted to know if anyone had used one and what they were like...
- effective distance
- rough cost
- etc (all the usual questions)

What I meant was is there a way to make it fire with the existing shutter speed and aperature settings?

I might be doing something wrong but I can only get it to fire when I reduce the aperature or shutter speed down far enough for the camera to judge that it needs the flash.

Is there are way to make it fire when the aperture/shutter speeds are still high?
