Hmm, hmm,
Just tried it again on my camera (with the SR on) and no clunk.
Curious and curiouser!

I too found the dull thunk to be alarming as well, so much so I was about to return it to my local branch of Jessops. Even when the camera is switched on, I was still getting the knocking. One way to put your mind at ease is to dial in a long exposure time, of 30 secs and rock your camera from horizontal to vertical, you will find there is no noise then. I suspect it has something to do with the SR and when the shutter is open the SR motors kick in to do their job (or simply hold the sensor steady if the SR is switched off).

Used the standard 18-55 at 55mm. I like your free sharpening service, thanks. I'm using PS CS for my post processing and never seem to get very favorable results, especially when using the sharpening tool in the RAW importer/convertor thingy. Maybe I just need more practice.

I took this one yesterday. Local country park childrens zoo, lens hard against the wire mesh of the enclosure and hope for the best. Although the mesh, I think, has had a detremental affect on the main subject, it has produced a rather interesting effect for the (out of focus, or bokeh) background.

This is the original of the the tree bark pic, unprocessed, just saved as a JPEG in the pentax software.

Still learning. The snowdrops pic was taken blind, camera at boot level and click! The pic of the tree bark seems a lot sharper in the original, all pictures were converted from RAW to GIF in Photoshop ImageReady. And yes the pic of the railing could have done with a tad more DOF.

My first posting, so be gentle with me!
Today was the first day I got to use my new camera in anger, after getting it for Christmas and some twenty years away from photography. A quiet stroll in the park with my K10D, 18-55 and a manual focus Sigma 70-210.
I'm not saying they're great, or even good for that matter, but practise I hope will make better!

Can anyone recommend a good sub £100 (A4) inkjet printer. I am currently using an ageing HP 930c, but the quality leaves a lot to be desire. When printing B+W it seems to produce a slight orange peel texture, most noticable when reproducing large(ish) areas of the same tone.

Just to let you know, and those who are contemplating it in the near future, that I am now running version 1.30. All that fretting and sweating wasn't justified (visions of a failed upgrade and a dead camera!). The only disconcerting thing was the read/write LED flashing continuously after the "complete" message was displayed. After switching the camera off, removing the SD card and switching it back on again, to my great relief, I was running version 1.30.
Once again, thanks to everyone who offered advice.

Chris,
Thanks, once again, for putting my mind at ease. Guess what I'm doing tomorow? Just as soon as my battery is fully charged!
