like that, thanks. Reminded me - after a brief discussion about a calendar for 2011 - that way too many people don't understand that "f/8 and be there" most definitely holds true still.
They just don't get that it's possible to retain something in your head, create several thousand shots - and that it's the bits around the edges that provide the real flavour to the results.

TBH, this is pretty much the only forum I use that doesn't use VBulletin. One other uses PHPBB, and I post on probably seven or eight on a regular basis.

It's annoying to not be able to set how many answers per page. It's annoying not to be able to set my own timezone.

I also administer one forum and another guy on the admin team is very good. He's extended things so that we limit quote lengths, remove pics in quotes, the editor is full WYSIWYG and signature text is only presented at 80%. (too many big sigs!)

ASP is terribly supported. Why does it need to be Windoze?

To answer your question: I tend not to quote unless I need to, but all of the parts you've identified are, to my mind, essential in a modern forum. Once you've built the community, then you can live on being different, but to my mind it's not the way to start, especially if it's a tech-savvy audience. They will be turned off immediately in my view.

I have a 10-24 and it's kind of interesting.

It's not the sharpest. However, I already commented elsewhere: It's not about sharpness, it's about rendering. Sharpness also returns, I now know, at around f8-f16. My copy or my cam appears to backfocus slightly (the focus point represents the start of the focus area, not its centre), but most of my lenses sit. I know it's there, it's not really an issue, especially at f/16 and 10mm....

This thing renders really nicely, it's obvious there's a lot of information being crammed in (feels like it to me) but the sense of space is manic.

the lane is approximately one car wide and heads down at 15 degrees or so.

my little monster out skating (yes, we did clear it ourselves; the ice is 25cm thick. She's 130cm tall and the "rink" is around 10m long.

Christmas day in Kuopio. Issues with flare despite the hood. It's a 90 degree corner, even if it doesn't look like it.

I'm reasonably happy. It does what it's supposed to, I'm looking forward to seeing it in action on the track and the rig. I might even get into some landscape stuff.

HtH.

.... -20, snow's stopped again for the time being. Hasn't been above zero since Christmas and that was the first time in a month.

Need it, though; got an ice track day on Saturday next week and some people coming over six weeks after that....

I think this is a pbase problem. The html is clean, the text is correct, the pics simply aren't loaded. Strange.

Actually, googling "pbase images no loading" is quite an eye-opener.....

thanks for all the welcomes!
Yes, it's tech writing, but... there are interesting things and not-so interesting things, as with all jobs. It pays the bills....

Lahti is OK, Helsinki is pretty cool, but up north is slightly more photogenic if you ask me. Big country, no-one here

I'm sorry? A 9 frame burst? No.

5 frames with a U II, 8 with a standard Extreme III, 9 with a 30MB/s edition. I have it set so it shows me when I half-press the shutter and the number tallies with my experience.

At least, that's how mine behaves.....
