There are all sorts of bird watching scopes other than Nikon, in fact I see quite a few Leica ones about in particular.

You probably need some sort of eyepiece adapter and the place to find adapters of all kinds is a company called SRB. (Not SRS!) If needs be they can make you virtually any adapter that you can imagine, but a Pentax K adapter for your purposes will probably be "off the shelf".

You are quite right to suggest SRB, John. I have used one of their digiscoping adaptors on my Leica scope with a Sony compact. Leica, Swarovski, Zeiss, Kowa and Opticron all make digiscoping adaptors for compacts but none fit any brand of DSLRs. The only one that does is manufactured by Nikon and it has not been well received by birders because of the limitations it makes on useable aperture. Also, the weight of a DSLR makes considerable demands on the strength of any adaptor.

Dan have you check out Bird Forum? There are endless threads on this subject!

Hi Dan,

Ref the K10 focus issue. There is a debug facility that can be downloaded from a Russian site for free and there are several threads on this forum explaining how it can be utilised.

As a keen birdwatcher myself, I don't believe there is a Pentax equivalent to the Nikon DSLR adaptor for mounting a Nikon DSLR to a Nikon Fieldscope. Have you considered digiscoping with a compact? There are several good adaptors available that fit most scopes.

Yes it is rather superficial but positive enough and I agree that the initial asking price of £599 is rather high. Whilst I have reservations about AA batteries myself, the significant development of Eneloop batteries seems to have passed this reviewer by.

I sold my K10D and 16-45mm to pay for a K20D. I'm still pondering where to jump next. I've got the Mark 2 18-55mm plus 55-300mm and I'll see how I get on. It seems the Sigma 17-70 is a very good alternative to the 16-45mm. But, as you have seen from the responses you've had, the 16-45mm is a cracker and currently £239 from SRS. The Sigma is £245.

Dave, do you wish you still had the 16-45? Did you get a 17 -70 BTW?
The trouble is, you cant try before you buy with a lens, well, only in the shop. A bit like buying a car without driving it really -hmmmm

Dave,do you know where the 55-300 'sits'? in terms of the hierarchy.would you class the 16- 45 more suitable as a walkaround lens.?

Hi Chris,

I'm still in 'novice' mode and have only used the 55-300mm once since purchasing it recently so too early to make any realistic assessment. However, I did have a 16-45mm for several months and I used it for 1,000 plus shots. I found it very sharp indeed but I kept wishing I had a 17-70mm!
