I'm thinking of replacing my Tamron 70-300 with a Sigma 120-400, does anyone have this lens? is it good? how sharp through the full range of the lens are the images? etc etc your views are appreciated.

I'm not considering the Bigma as I have filters that would fit the 120-400 and I wanted something little smaller and more portable.

Has anyone used the 120-400 with the Sigma teleconverters, and if so what was the impact on image quality?
might be useful? : http://www.popphoto.com/Reviews/Lenses/Sigma-120-400mm-f-4.5-5.6-DG-OS-HSM-Lens-...

sorry if this is bad form but the only info I've seen is on another site where user brandrx has had the pleasure of owning most of the long lens options, suggest you have a search there too for his username

recent threads re the sigma TCs:

hope it helps

FWIW my memory is that users on the other site felt the 120-400 is a bit softer at 400mm

On the bottom RH of the form there is the above link. The registration form is there. Unfortunately I am too late to register my 60-250
sorry don't see a stand alone link to registering lenses on the UK page - did I miss something ???

Are you suggesting this can be done for lenses bought pre-cashback offer ?

I really would like to get hold of a 150-500mm and do a comparison with the 50-500mm for myself but if another lens arrived on the doorstep then I am 100% certain I would be living in the garage.
IIRC user 'brandrx' on DePressingREVIEW (dpreview) website has compared a lot of the long lenses available for Pentax, might be worth a look.

PS get it delivered to your work "goods in" dept

You can also use something like this link
When printed though the "copyright" is gone but digital copies should have the "copyright" intact so if you see one you can proof it's yours.

A bit better link without the clutter information you get in the first one link
Hi Anvh/Stefan, interested to know have you any experience of this ?
From a 2min scan of the website (so I'm probably oversimplifying) it just sounds like a hyperlink or ID code to their site is inserted into the EXIF data for the image and then your code no. and licencing info is held on their site for reference for the princely sum of $500 pa.

Could you not do this with a EXIF editor or DAM tool and your own website, doesn't seem like it's worth the money to me, or did I miss something about how the watermarking works ?

cheers

Ps
not doing this again for free or a wedding
Lots of useful points have already been said by others on the topic, perhaps I could suggest the way to look at it is as a loss leader into the weddings area. If your friends/wife's friends are happy with the results then this goodwill may translate into recommendations to their friends/acquaintances which you can benefit from to build the work, just as for your studio. Potentially souring it over a few pics for a screen saver doesn't seem worth it to me, in spite of the irritation it's causing you to feel.

just my 2d worth... hope you manage to resolve the situ to everyones satisfaction.

Just been to register here and there is no option that I can see for the 60-250mm. Anyone else done theirs and if so how?

Thanks
nope, no option in the product section, annoying isn't it. I may well log mine as a DA*300 and see what voucher comes back in the post

Just wanted to stop by and say thanks to all for your thoughts.

Sorry I haven't posted any example 24-90 pics as intended, I've not had much spare time recently due to some family illnesses - haven't even managed to print out anything bigger than 7x5 from my new B9180 printer yet !

Oddly as it seems, despite my earlier post re LBA, in about 3 weeks i will have around £1000 to spend on Photographic gear. I am happy with my K20 so do not feel the need for the K7, I am also happy with my current lenses; see my sig. Have no great desire to get into flash. I have access to a pro quality A3 printer. So the question is what would you do : I HAVE to spend the money on photographic gear, so a week in italy will not suffice.
Come on folks I need good ideas
Davex.
nice little windfall

how about a good quality travel tripod - since you have lots of £££ to splurge how about looking into feisol or gitzo, should shift a good £300-500 nicely ?

A grip for the K20 ?

Some ND and/or polarising filters ??

travel/hiking rucsac for photo gear ?

new computer & pp'ing software ??

some dumbells to get into training for the bigma ??

Personally I would go for a good tripod and some quality glass - a prime or two to add to your zooms maybe as you say you're happy with them, you'll think about your photography differently using primes.

just my 2d worth, enjoy the choices - tough one

If you are having trouble focusing in low light then a faster lens should help but faster than f2.8 with a zoom lens in the range 16-50 will be expensive!

A cheeper alternative to a faster lens would be to use one of the pentax flashes (AF-360FGZ or AF-540FGZ) which can give out a focus assist beam - these will allow you to focus even when it too dark to see.

Other makes of flash may also do this and may be cheeper.
the AF red spotbeam only mode can be found on some older pentax flashguns too, i.e. AF240FT IIRC, just a thought if money is tight.
