Thanks everyone! It is interesting to read about your experience with landscape filters.

I have been looking at Heliopan CPLs and the HiTech square filter system for the Pentax 67ii system, but have been put off by the price. But I am starting to realize, also based on your comments above, that I probably will have to save up money for some filters. I guess that for film photography filters are an even more important part of the set-up than with digital (where you can add filters in PP).

I have a Pentax 67ii medium format film camera system that I want to use more, mainly for landscape photography. I know that many landscape photographers use both polarizers and ND graduated filters. I have not invested into any filters for my 67ii system, mainly because of the high costs involved. My 67 zoom, for instance, takes 95mm filters, and filters cost a small fortune.

Are polarizers and ND graduated filters absolutely necessary for landscape photography? Is there also a difference for requirements between film and digital?

I am grateful for any advice!

From what I've read, all have their faults. The Pentax and Tamron pin sharp in the middle but fall off at the edges. The Sigma more consistently sharp across the whole image but not as sharp as the pentax or tamron. all have their own individual quirks regards distortion and CA.
In my experience the DA12-24 is remarkably sharp right across the frame. I purchased this zoom mainly for Northern Lights photography, and thus I often use the lens at 12mm wide open. I am very satisfied with the results that I get.

I also adhere to the advice given by DrO, about waiting for the DA12-28. This lens might be even better then the excellent DA12-24.

Wow! You have had quite a "Nordic Safari", that is a long distance for a three week trip. Somehow I found the shots from the most desolate places most interesting. Many of the shots from Norway were stunning. For maybe 2 milliseconds I recognized the wharves along the Nidelven in Trondheim (I even believe I saw myself walking along the river). The convoy of Range Rovers were impressive. This must be the perfect vehicle for Scandinavian roads?

I have fooled around a bit with video editing and Apple DVD Studio Pro,and I must confess that I am very impressed with your level of proficency with video editing. Great stuff! Do you have further plans for your video/photo material?

Thank you for sharing!

We had a holiday in Moraira, Spain, some weeks ago. Here are some holiday snaps from our stay. All were taken with the K20D and a Voigtlander Ultron 40mm, except no 6+7+8 which were taken with the DA18-55mm WR. The first images were taken near the town of Moraira, then there are some from a walk to the old watchtower above El Portet. The last two were taken from the plane, no 12. above the Pyrenees.

The main reason I sold the lens, was that the 35mm field of view never felt quite right. I feel very much at home with 24-28mm and 50mm lenses, but a 35mm prime was not for me. Otherwise this lens was quite interesting, at open apertures very good for close portraits or other motives at a close distance. From f5.6-6.7 to f16 it was very sharp and had good contrast for objects far away. Thus making it also a very good landscape lens IMHO.
