Thank you so much Dave! Yes, I remember that you travelled to Iceland earlier this year, and shared some nice photos here at PU afterwards.

I am experimenting with the interval settings. If my memory serves me right, the settings were as follows:

First video sequence: ISO 1600, 13 sec exposure, 30 sec intervall
Second video sequence: ISO 3200, 10 sec exposure, 15 sec intervall
Third video sequence: ISO 1600, 13 sec exposure, 20 sec intervall

When making the timelapse, I set 10 frames per second in the encoder settings, which probably explains the lack of smoothness. The PAL standard is 25 f/s. The reason for me using 10 f/s is to keep the movement as slow as possible. I want to find a way to make timelapse videos with 25 f/s but rendered with slow motion. This can be done, but I guess it involves some advanced video editing software and $$$ I use Quicktime Pro on my Mac for timelapse, inexpensive and good enough for now. I have also seen Aurora videos recorded with very expensive pro video cameras (Sony), that can shoot one frame per second with high ISO, resulting in aurora videos that show the actual movement of the aurora. But I would have to sell my car (at least) for one of these video cameras, so I guess my K-5 will do for now.

Bjørn

PS: The vimeo videos have an HD video option. My video runs smoother on my Mac when NOT shown in HD.

I have made another Northern Lights timelapse, consisting of images from three different nights in October 2013
(02.10+ 21.10 + 30.10). Pentax K-5 and DA 12-24mm f4

Hope you like it!

I need to invest into a scanner for my medium format films, therefore the Tokina sadly has to go.

I purchased the Tokina about two years ago from an American on Pentaxforums.com. The zoom is in "mint" condition, there are no visible marks on the body. The glasses are perfect. The AF is fast and precise, and the zoom action smooth and firm. I believe one would have to search for a long time to find a specimen of this lens (in Pentax mount) in such a good condition. The lens comes with front/rear caps, hood, soft bag and original box. This is the second version of the Tokina AT-X 840 and is characterized with having a tripod mount and a better coating than version one. This lens is very rare in Pentax mount.

The zoom is a perfect travel companion, due to its compact design, and very useful for birds and wildlife.

I want £375,- for the Tokina. Postage from Norway to the UK is roughly £28. I have to post the package with the correct amount, so the buyer also has to calculate import taxes.

Payment by PayPal, the buyer pays transaction fees.

The lenses are the same optical formula throughout, but there may well be development in the coatings and there's always sample deviation as well.
I remember having read somewhere (Stan's Pentax page possibly?) that the SMC 50mm f1.4 and SMC-M 50mm f1.4 have similar/identical optical construction. The SMC-A 50mm f1.4 was slightly redesigned, resulting in, among other things, sharper corner to corner sharpness. There is also a new coating on the A version. These new developments were carried over into the F and FA series.
(It would be interesting if somebody could verify this and elaborate further about similarities/differences between the Pentax 50mms!)

BTW: I also have the SMC-M 50mm f1.4, I have not used it enough, but every time I use it, I enjoy the solid build quality, small size and excellent results the lens can produce.

I use lenses with the Pentax K mount on my DSLRs. So I draw the line between M42 and K mount. I especially enjoy using SMC-K lenses, and do not regard lack of "A" setting or manual focus as any problem at all. The SMC-K lenses (especially) have an impressive build quality, and they perform marvelously, so I regard them as great photographic tools, not as vintage collector items. In fact, I am less confident when I walk around with some of the more modern Pentax plastic lenses. They seem much more frail.

This was possibly beside the point of departure for this thread, but anyway...

Great set and wonderful scenery. I especially like the first two. The Samyang 14mm has been on my "want-to-buy-in-the-future" list for some time now, it is interesting to see some wide landscapes with the lens.
