For example the DA 55-300 has SP coating; if I understand well it protects its front lens against dirt and contamination but does it mean it is actually fully weather sealed? Apparently not but I just want to be certain. I suppose the fully weather sealed lenses are the Star DA lenses. Am I right?

Well, I don't think Socialist Party has anything to do with photography! Anyway, I assumed anybody would understand that I referred to SP coating when talking about lenses. So I am sorry! I think SP stands for Super Protect(ion) but I am not sure. And my question was : does it mean a lens with SP coating is weather sealed?

When I decided to go digital, I chose the K100D Super as it felt sturdier than the Canon EOS 400D and the Nikon D40. Moreover the price was unbeatable. I also looked at the Olympus E510 double kit which looked interesting, as well as the dust reduction system and the compact size of the camera (ideal for hikers like me). However I was not too keen on the Four-Thirds standard which does not seem to be ideal for landscapes.
Anyway I chose Pentax and I have never regretted it: very good specifications for a budget DSLR, and many other qualities such as backward compatibility, affordable lenses, etc. It is my first Pentax and I am very likely to stick with the brand as I have purchased or intend to purchase more lenses to complete the 18-55 kit lens.

I bet you will trust everyone who enters the competition! How are you going to make sure their photos have been taken within 100 yards from home? By the way 100 yards, that's about 90 metres? Am I right?

Perhaps many of us have taken the subject matter too literally, thinking that the photograph had to be taken on New Year's Eve rather than submitting an image that is evocative of New Year's Eve :

I'd be surprised if that was the case as it always seems to me that the weekly competition prompts people to trawl their archives.

Pity if it is the case as the completions are fun.

I agree with both of you. I will post the results tomorrow some time in the morning. Nearly two hours left to submit a picture. Good night.

I've purchased the 55-300 recently and although I have not used it a lot yet all the photos I've taken so far look very good indeed even at 300. The 50-200 is cheaper but I think the extra focal lengths are worth the extra money. Hope that helps!

Only four entries so far in this week's competition, is it due to the celebrations and you didn't have the time or the will to take photos or have I chosen a subject that is not inspiring? If so I am sorry, but I am sure many of you have a photo to submit... Come on!
