I'm with Barrie on this one!...Mine crashed after 8 years of use,I just went to my local computer shop in Hexham. He asked me what I used it for,I told him ,and he built me one!......3 days and it was ready. The good thing was he downloaded everything off the old one onto the new!....If I have any problems it's just a short trip into town to get it fixed!.....

I just picked up my K5 yesterday and the first 6 shots I took were testing at f22 on a sheet of glossy photo paper, with the 35mm macro ltd. I wanted to see if the problem was there initially, It isn't!! Serial no, 3913....
But that doesn't mean it won't appear after some use,

I am about to update the firmware and then check it again, but I doubt that will have anything to do with it, just covering all bases.
The South bound K5's must be alright then!...

It's your screen (again:lol, Tim! I can see loads of detail. However, the bad news, Alun, is that I can see a lot of noise too. The DJ and curtain behind are very noisy in the first - on my screen. In the second it's not so serious but it is there. Faces look good, though - especially in the second (and no, that's not just an indication of my preference for young girls - though I can't discount this entirely:wink.

Re. the shadow detail - a similar thing happened with Tim on another forum. I spotted something in a photo which the original poster couldn't see (it was in shadow). Tim couldn't see it either. Others came along, of whom some could and some couldn't see it.

Edit: Just seen your post Alun. So you can't see it either. Which means it's probably my screen that needs calibrating.

I wouldn't have thought the difference between the kit lens and the 16/45 would make that much difference!....
Well you have both so why not try it.
The difference is quite noticeable on a landscape shot.

Besides, OP is on a limited budget (although he doesn't say how much).
Sorry Mike,I meant bulk/size wise!....
