isn't that the way it is supposed to be?
I would certainly think so!
I would assume if I'm using sRGB (or AdobeRGB aware software), the images should appear the same. I would also assume with system wide color management, those same images would appear acceptably similar on another system.

It seems every application has a different look for the same image CS3, IrfanView, ACDSee, SilkyPix, MSIE, (not a simple sRGB v.s. AdobeRGB issue). Now it is compounded with these additional non-sense color management settings in some applications.

I keep telling myself my next computer will be a MAC. Maybe just for photo work, I will actually do that next time...

OK, I've been working with color management for a while and I seem to think I have the thing down but I cannot find a good answer to one issue...

I have my display calibrated/profiled and that loads when Windows starts.
Things look fine as far as I can tell. The odd thing is that some software, such as SilkyPix, has a setting to Enable display color management.

If I load th same image into both PhotoShop and into SilkyPix the image looks consistent when I have Enable Color management turned on within SilkyPix.

The obvious answer is turn on the setting ,but WHY?
Shouldn't this be doubling the effect? Windows is modifying the output, then SilkyPix is modifying that again.

On the other hand, I also use ACDSee Pro. The images look consistent to PhotoShop when color management is DISABLED.

Is there any sense to the whole color management thing or is everyone just guessing?

For SilkyPix experts... is this setting to match specific output devices such as when printing? There is no color management setting from the Print options. That would make sense, but I don't understand why I have to enable the setting for standard display when Windows should already be taking care of the screen calibration.

Any ideas on what appears to be rather inconsistent behavior?

I have to agree, it definitely sounds like Dane Cook. Video #2 shows Dane Cook photos in the beginning. So o if it isn't him, he is a big fan and is trying to sound that way.

I always had difficulties using the clone tool. Now I know how to recover from those mistakes.

OK, not quite sure what the Neurotic Bunny has to do with anything, but love it.

Anyway, video sees to stream just fine for me.
The light tent video seems a bit dark but it seems OK. I think hiring a professional would help but not necessary.
Although I don't care for the background music during the video. I found it rather distracting while you were talking. Hunted for other windows where music would be coming from.

Just a note, and probably not a big problem but be aware that when the first battery get exhausted, the second battery doesn't simply take up the slack. The camera will stop working. You have to shut the camera off then on in order to cause the fresh battery to come on line. (in fact you may need to do so a few times because the initial selected battery may "recharge" enough to stay online and go flat again after one or two photos.

Rather irritating and surprising the first time or two it happens, but now not much of an issue.

Obviously worth the money if the photos have some value or meaning!!
Although I found several recovery programs for free that have worked fine. I have the installer for one that I used, but no readme stating who made it.

I would look around a bit more. In general recovery programs do not alter contents of the card, so you should be safe to try a few.

FYI, DataRescue is also a good company and I have used their program about six years ago. Back then it did a fantastic job. I simply haven't found a need to pay for recovery since, but if the free ones failed I'd probably check them out.

RescuePro works well, but it seems a little simplistic. For the cost (free with the memory card) it was well worth it.

Turn off compatibility mode if it is on. (no need for extra thumbnails, etc...)
Flatten the image if you don't need those layers.
Save in another lossless format - or save as JPEG.

I like the effect of the smoke as an abstract backdrop, but the back light may be too bright. It is really taking my attention away from the face. I think a tighter crop might work better as well.
